Job Purpose
The provision of quality Physiotherapy service in line with standards of Physiotherapy practice. To provide quality, client centred Physiotherapy assessment and treatment to identified client groups as directed by the Physiotherapy Manager. To Promote and preserve the Bon Secours mission, values and ethos & to maintain confidentiality and a professional approach at all times.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Role Summary:
- To be a key team member in the Physiotherapy Team, incorporating the development, implementation and delivery of an effective evidence based Physiotherapy service.
- To be a key team member involved in the management, development and education of all staff, including qualified and undergraduate physiotherapists.
- To manage, organize and coordinate the physiotherapy service for patient and staff referrals of the BSHD.
- Fully participating in the development of department policies, all training and the implementation within the BSHD.
Key Duties / Responsibilities:
- To be accountable for the management of all BSHD patient and staff referrals by triaging, prioritizing and delegating each referral to the most appropriate physiotherapy provider.
- To take part in the weekend rota and also be prepared to be flexible with Monday to Friday working hours.
- As a member of the senior physiotherapist, to work effectively with the other members to shape, provide and monitor in-patient and outpatient physiotherapy services, ensuring all services are developed and evaluated.
- To hold a clinical caseload, working as an autonomous practitioner providing expert patient assessment, clinical diagnosis and management of patients.
- To develop and update clinical and management skills, knowledge and expertise.
- To ensure that the physiotherapy service is effective, of high quality and well-coordinated.
Patient Care
- To provide skilled physiotherapy assessment and diagnosis for patients with a wide range of highly complex conditions , demonstrating a high level of clinical effectiveness while acting as a source of expertise to fellow members of the physiotherapy service.
- As a senior physiotherapist, to ensure patient records throughout the department are accurate and comprehensive in line with legal requirements and best standards of physiotherapy practice.
Service Planning and Development
- To facilitate effective communication within the Physiotherapy Department, with Consultants and with other multidisciplinary team members.
- To play an active role in the operational, strategic management and development of the physiotherapy service.
- To ensure that policies, protocols, procedures and guidelines are reviewed for effectiveness and appropriateness and that changes are implemented as necessary.
- To ensure data collection and analysis to reflect the full extent of the physiotherapy service while monitoring activity, standards and outcomes.
Clinical Tuition of Physiotherapy students
- To facilitate and foster the concept of reflective learning and analytical practice at undergraduate level, and ensure the students uphold the standards of the physiotherapy department.
- To undertake ongoing clinical education in liaison with the staff from educational partners.
- To actively lead and promote continuing education and research activities.
Research and Education
- To keep abreast of national and international guidelines, standards and protocols and ensure the development of the physiotherapy service is in line with national standards.
- To keep the Physiotherapy Manager informed of relevant research findings and their implications for the physiotherapy service.
- To maintain and develop own expert practice through CPD activities, keeping abreast of new developments across the spectrum of physiotherapy practice and integrating them into clinical practice.
- To achieve 30 CPD points yearly as required by CORU for registration.
- To do 30 hours reflection on learning activity yearly as also required by CORU for registration.
- To be an active contributor to in service training and education programs, delivering regular training for peers, junior and undergraduate physiotherapists

Qualifications
Essential
- BSc degree in Physiotherapy ( Level 8 )
- Registered member of CORU
Desirable
- Current member of ISCP
- Relevant post graduate education/experience in field of medical/surgical rehab / care of the elderly
- Teaching/Tutoring Experience

- Minimum of 3years post graduate experience

- Hospital experience
- Evidence of experience in training/ supervision of junior staff/students.
