Service Navigator/ Administrative Assistant

Overview:

The Service Navigator/ Administrative Assistant is the main point of communication for the BNRC’s programs. This individual supports culturally appropriate community wellness, social planning, and safety in the downtown area by assisting with facilitating programs and providing a warm, welcoming atmosphere for our clients and visitors.

Mandatory Qualifications & Experience

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Knowledge of housing precarity and substance use issues.

Ability to work as a team and independently in a professional manner.

Class 5 Drivers License.

Access to own vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

Extensive knowledge of services available in the downtown.

Some experience in non-profit program delivery or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Some post-secondary education in area of education, health, social services, or related field.

Awareness of the social determinants of health.

Lived experience of housing precarity is considered an asset.

De-escalation training/Non-violent crisis intervention training, trauma informed considered an asset.

Duties & Responsibilities

Serve as the main point of contact/communication between all of BNRC’s programs and the general public.

Responding to general inquiries (via phone calls, emails, walk ins) and facilitating tours of the BNRC.

Provide service navigation to individuals and other service providers by directing them to the correct BNRC program, or directing them to an external social service organization.

Manage crisis between, within, and among various group and individuals in the BNRC lobby area, including mentoring and using a variety of self-help coping skills and different approaches to interpersonal situations.

Ensuring individuals who are in crisis are offered appropriate supports such as medical, counselling, or advocacy.

Use empathy, trauma-informed practice, and motivational interview techniques to assess what services an individual requires.

Assist individuals with the referral process to internal and external services such as housing, victim services, legal aid, education, etc.

Coordinate the community mailbox program (receiving and sorting mail, handing mail to correct individuals and/or forwarding to correct address)

Assist with path-finding for Brandon’s vulnerable population.

Engage with vulnerable population to ensure supports are being provided.

Brainstorm and implement community activities that support wellness

Establish and maintain community networks through outreach activities.

Identify, share relevant information and resources.

Promote agency programs and services within the community.

Other duties as assigned.

Renumeration

The current wage for the Service Navigator/ Administrative Assistant position is $23 – $26 per hour at 37.5 Hours per week, on site.
