The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Social Media & Content Creator who loves capturing moments and turning them into compelling social content.

This role offers the opportunity to create content across some of Western Canada’s most recognized media brands, including Vancouver Magazine, BCBusiness, Western Living, BC Living, and alive Magazine.

From restaurant openings and design showcases to wellness experiences and industry events, you’ll be creating social content that brings these brands to life online.

The Role

This is a hands-on content creation role responsible for producing and publishing social media content across the Alive Publishing Group and Canada Wide Media brand portfolio.

The role involves filming and editing short-form video, writing captions, publishing content across platforms, and engaging with audiences on a daily basis.

You will work closely with editorial, marketing and events teams to support brand initiatives and capture content at media events and industry experiences.

Evening and occasional weekend event attendance is part of the role.

What You’ll Do

Content Creation

  • Create and publish engaging social content across the Alive Publishing Group and Canada Wide

Media brand portfolio

  • Produce platform-native content including Reels, TikToks, Stories, carousels and static posts
  • Write engaging captions optimized for reach and discoverability
  • Design social graphics using Canva
  • Maintain social content calendars and support promotion of editorial stories and brand initiatives
  • Monitor comments and messages and engage with the audience
  • Track performance and adjust content based on insights and trends

Video & Short-Form Content

  • Film and edit short-form video optimized for Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts
  • Coordinate filming days with editors, experts and brand partners
  • Organize and manage social video assets
  • Stay on top of emerging social trends, formats and creative approaches

Events & Field Content

  • Attend events on behalf of our brands including restaurant openings, food events, design showcases, wellness activations and media gatherings
  • Capture high-quality photo and video content on-site
  • Turn around timely social coverage from events
  • Represent the brands professionally in public settings

Campaigns & Brand Initiatives

  • Support social campaigns, giveaways and partnerships
  • Collaborate with editorial, marketing and sales teams on integrated initiatives
  • Support major brand moments including awards, events and editorial launches
  • Assist with social promotion for initiatives such as Alive Academy, alive Listens and other digital projects

Skills & Experience

  • 1–3 years experience managing social media for a brand, publisher or lifestyle company
  • Proven ability to create high-performing short-form video
  • Strong graphic creation skills using Canva
  • Excellent caption writing and editing skills
  • Deep familiarity with Instagram, TikTok and emerging social platforms
  • Applicants should be active users of social platforms and comfortable creating short-form video content regularly
  • Comfortable capturing content in real time at events
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Based in Metro Vancouver

Nice to Have

  • Experience with WordPress or CMS platforms
  • On-camera comfort
  • Background or interest in lifestyle, food, design or wellness media
  • Familiarity with Photoshop or InDesign

Creative Exercise (Shortlisted Candidates)

Shortlisted candidates may be asked to complete a brief creative exercise. This may involve reviewing one of our brands and proposing a few social media post ideas or short-form video concepts.

The exercise is designed to help us understand how you think about storytelling, social trends, and audience engagement.
