About the Job
The purpose of the role is to provide a nursing service for Homeless clients who are admitted to the Dublin Simon Residential Health and Addiction Treatment Services. The role includes assessment of the health needs of clients which addresses their physical, social, psychological, mental health, addiction, cultural and health needs. The nurse is responsible for ensuring the safety and well being of clients throughout their stay. This is done in conjunction with the visiting GP’s and members of the Residential teams.

Location: Dublin Simon Community, various locations across Dublin
Responsibilities:
- To effectively liaise with a range of service providers both voluntary and statutory in order to assist in the assessment of referrals to the unit.
- To complete all administrative tasks such as report writing, maintenance of accurate nursing and medical records, up to date client case notes, relevant form filling in order to ensure that the unit runs smoothly, safely and effectively.
- To facilitate groups through an effective health education and promotion programme in order to ensure that clients receive relevant information for making informed decisions.
- To liaise with the visiting G.P. in relation to admissions, prescribing of medications and in addressing the health needs of all clients in the service.

Qualifications
Essential:
- RPN or RGN On the live register maintained by An Bord Altranais for the relevant qualification/s
- Basic Computer skills
Desirable:
- Diploma or degree in addiction studies.
Experience and Competencies
Essential:
- Minimum of 2 years post registration experience
- Has extensive knowledge of ethical principles and code of professional conduct articulated in the ABA “Code of Professional Conduct” document.
- Determines own scope of practice and formulates decisions about care utilising the principles for determining scope of practice in the Scope of Nursing and Midwifery Practice Framework document
- Responds appropriately to instances of unsafe or unprofessional practice
- Serves as an advocate for the rights of clients
- Ensures confidentiality in respect of records and interactions
- Practices in a way that acknowledges the differences in beliefs and cultural practices of clients/colleagues
- Accepts responsibility and accountability for consequences of own actions or omissions
- Recognises own abilities and level of professional competency.
- Uses the Roper Logan Tierney Model of Nursing Model of Nursing to assess on admission, set goals, plan interventions, carry out care and evaluate progress towards achievement of goals.
- Utilises knowledge of the issues relating to homeless clients and or addiction when carrying out the admission assessment
- Is aware of the principles of medication management and the storage/checking procedures for usage of MDA’s.
- Effectively utilises tools to monitor alcohol withdrawal.
- Establishes and maintains caring therapeutic interpersonal relationships with clients and relevant others
- Demonstrates ability to work as a team member
- Collaborates with all members of the health care team when making decisions regarding clients
- Communicates effectively with external agencies
- Has an understanding of how to manage interpersonal conflict and how unresolved issues can impact on service
- Provides evidence of ongoing professional development
- Contributes to the learning experiences of colleagues through support, teaching and sharing of knowledge.
- Educates clients to maintain and promote health.
Desirable:
- Experience of working with clients who are homeless and or experience of working with clients with a history of addiction.
- Experience of using a Model of Nursing
- Knowledge of the homeless sector and the effects that being homeless has on clients health and well being
- Has experience of facilitating groups
- Has evidence of involvement in a change management project
- Has evidence of experience in developing policies procedures and guidelines
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: From €40,000.00 per year
