Staff Nurse

The three principal areas of responsibility are:

Professional / Clinical
Managerial
Personnel

1. Professional / Clinical Individualised Resident Care

1.1 Encourage recognition of the residents as an individual and ensure that their needs and comforts are given priority

1.2. Take personal responsibility for ensuring that their allocated residents have:

- An individual assessment based on their specific needs.

- A plan of care tailored to meet their needs and in which they are involved as fully as possible.

- Their plan of care implemented, evaluated and that modifications are made as care needs change every three months

- Involvement of other practitioners of the multidisciplinary team as the context of care to the residents and carer needs demand.

1.3 Actively promote and implement the concept of individualised resident care within the Nursing Home environment

1.4 Liaise and report on a regular basis to the Nurse in Charge on all aspects of resident care.

1.5 Develop and promote good relationships with residents, families and carers, and make the Nursing Home environmentally welcoming and homely.

1.6 Ensure that the Nursing Documentation relating to resident care is in accordance with professional and Care Unit standards.

2. Accountability for Practice Education and Personal Development.

2.1 Ensure that the principles, which govern adjustments to practice as, identified in the Bord Altranais document "Scope of Nursing and Midwifery Practice Framework" are promoted and adhered to.

2.2 Develop scope of professional practice to meet the 'core' areas considered suitable.

Staff Induction and Development

2.3 Participate and support the Director of Nursing in the staff development and induction programme for both trained and untrained staff.

2.4 Contribute to the maintenance of a Nursing home environment conducive to maximising performance and co-operation.

2.4 Adopt a supportive role for newly appointed staff nurses as required.

2.5 Participate and support the staff development programme.

2.6 Promote an environment that provides learning and growth for qualified/unqualified staff and participates in the ward-learning programme.

2.8 Facilitate the development of an environment conducive to promoting 'reflective practice' thus ensuring that care delivered to residents is of the highest standard.

2.9 Keep professionally updated and abreast of current trends/developments in professional matters as identified in the Report of the Commission of Nursing and governmental directives.

3. Clinical and Professional Leadership

Clinical Research and Supervision

3.1 Participate and support in promoting Research Awareness in clinical nursing practice.

3.2 Act as a 'Resource Nurse' for an identified area of patient care for the clinical area as required and participate in developing standards of care utilising research findings through the Care Unit wide approach.

4. Quality Outcomes and Audit

4*.1* Promote and improve the quality of the residents’ standards of care through participating in Quality Assurance programmes

4.2 Actively contribute to Quality Assurance programmes.

4.3 Act as the identified nurse for co-coordinating and monitoring specific aspects related to topics as identified on the quality programme.

4.4 Continually promote and support the requirements as identified in the Nursing Home 'Quality Standards'.

5. Managerial

5.1 Assist the Director of Nursing in the overall supervision of the entire staff on duty.

5.2 Work at various levels in the nursing team, taking different roles as the situation requires.

5.3 Establish regular and effective communication with medical staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team, and also with residents and relatives.

5.4 Act as 'team leader' within the nursing team and to ensure that the care delivered to residents is as a result of individual assessment care needs.

5.5 Effectively organise and prioritise the delivery of resident care needs.

5.6 Ensure that the Nursing home environment is kept clean, tidy and safe.

5.7 Whilst on duty, ensure that residents’ property is documented on admission/discharge.

6*. Personnel*

6.1 Ensure that Policies and Procedures are adhered.

6.2 Be aware of the contents of the Fire and Safety Statement as applicable to the clinical area and effectively manage emergency situations.

6.3 Ensure that the practice of drug custody of Dangerous Drugs and administration conforms to the requirements as laid down in the "Misuse of Drugs Act" and ensure that correct drug records are kept. Report discrepancies immediately to the Director of Nursing or other nominated person.

6.4 Work as part of the care team having regard for the individual team members and an appreciation of their individual contribution to the team effort.

6.5 Ensure strict confidentiality of information regarding residents is adhered to.

7. Health and Safety

7.1 Consider the health, safety and welfare of staff, residents and visitors in accordance with the 'Health and Safety at Work Act'.

7.2 Report and record all accidents or incidents involving staff, residents and visitors to the Director of Nursing as identified in the 'Risk Management ' programme.

7.3 Supervise the duties of non-nursing personnel and instruct other staff in the need to detect and report faulty equipment and report repairs, which are required.

7.4 Ensure the correct and appropriate use of equipment is maintained.

7.5 Ensure that the Manual Handling Policy is adhered to.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: €22.81 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Chapelizod, Dublin, CO. Dublin: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Education:

  • Bachelor's (preferred)

Experience:

  • Nursing: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland registration (preferred)
  • Valid work permit/visa or permission to work in Ireland/ EU (preferred)
