Our sessions are designed to be immersive and atmospheric, blending astronomy with landscape, culture, and a strong sense of place.

The Role
We’re looking for a confident, engaging Stargazing Tour Guide to lead night sky experiences in and around the Canberra region. You’ll work as part of a two-guide team for each session, ensuring a smooth, engaging, and safe experience for all guests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-lead guided stargazing tours as part of a two-guide team
  • Interpret constellations, planets, and celestial events in an engaging way
  • Set up and pack down equipment, including telescopes, lanterns, and seating
  • Ensure guest safety and comfort in outdoor environments
  • Create a consistent, high-quality experience aligned with Red Lantern Tours’ brand
  • Adapt delivery based on weather, season, and audience type

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong communication and storytelling ability
  • A solid grounding in astronomy and a genuine, keen interest in the night sky (formal qualifications are not required)
  • Confident working at night in outdoor environments
  • Professional, reliable, and personable
  • Ability to work collaboratively with another guide
  • Ability to manage small groups independently when required
  • Valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport (essential)
  • Willingness to work nights, with overnight work potentially required on a sporadic basis

Bonus Skills (Not Essential)

  • Experience in tourism, guiding, or outdoor education
  • Knowledge of Indigenous astronomy and cultural storytelling
  • Telescope operation experience
  • First aid certification

Job Type: Casual

Pay: $24.95 – $30.00 per hour
