Student Support Specialist (Mathematics)

About the Role

Mathematics Pointt, an online tutoring organisation based in Craigieburn, is expanding its student support system and is seeking a Student Support Specialist to assist students with homework, doubt solving, and academic engagement between lessons.

Ideal for individuals looking for casual work who have a strong interest in mathematics, particularly solving mathematical questions and helping others understand them.

This role is suitable for:

  • High-achieving university students
  • Maths enthusiasts who enjoy solving problems
  • Senior secondary students (Year 10, 11 or 12) authorised to work in Australia

Responsibilities involve supporting students through:

  • Online messaging groups
  • Reviewing homework submissions
  • Helping students when they get stuck on questions

Essential Requirements (Non-Negotiable)

  • Strong understanding of secondary school mathematics
  • Ability to solve maths questions quickly and explain solutions clearly
  • ATAR 90+ preferred (if Year 12 completed)
  • Comfortable using online tools and messaging platforms
  • Reliable, organised, and responsive
  • Working With Children Check (WWCC) required

Highly Regarded (But Not Mandatory)

  • Tutoring or academic support experience
  • Currently studying Mathematics, Engineering, Science, or Education
  • Experience with Grades 7–12 Mathematics

What You’ll Be Supporting

  • Year 7–10 Secondary Mathematics students
  • VCE General Maths & Maths Methods students
  • Homework correction and solution explanations
  • Student questions between lessons

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and mark student homework submissions
  • Provide clear step-by-step solutions when required
  • Assist students when they get stuck on problems
  • Encourage consistent homework completion
  • Flag learning issues or patterns to tutors when required
