About the position

We are now looking to appoint a summer worker for the Large Scale Structures group in the Science Division within Thermal Characterization of Sample Holder for Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) Experiments.

The Large Scales Structures group is responsible for key instruments, including ESTIA, FREIA, LoKI, NMX and SKADI, providing the infrastructure needed to support a wide range of experimental techniques and studies within the Large Scale Structures community. By ensuring these instruments operate safely and reliably, LSS enables scientists to investigate complex materials, perform advanced materials characterization, and study fundamental structural phenomena at unprecedented scales.

As a LoKI summer worker your main tasks will be to characterize the thermal transfer of the linear and rotational sample holder used in Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) experiments.

About you

A suitable background for this position would be:

  • Education focused in STEM
  • Experience working in a lab-based environment
  • Strong interest in STEM fields
  • Good record-keeping, documentation, and lab notebook skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English
  • Minimum age 18 years.

The ideal candidate has an education in STEM, either at the high school/gymnasium level or pursuing a bachelor’s degree, and experience working in a lab-based environment. They have a strong interest in science and engineering and enjoy hands-on work and practical problem-solving. They demonstrate good record-keeping, documentation, and lab notebook skills. They enjoy communicating and collaborating with a variety of people in an international environment. The candidate is proactive, able to take initiative, and not afraid to ask questions.

Duration and location

This is a summer work position of 2 months/8 weeks.

Planned start date is 1 June, 2026 or per agreement.

Your workplace is on-site at ESS in Lund, Sweden.
