Supervising Veterans' Benefits Attorney

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Supervising Veterans' Benefits Attorney to join our team. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience in handling veterans' benefits cases, a strong understanding of the legal issues that veterans face, and the ability to lead and mentor a team of case managers and other staff.

Responsibilities:

Case Management Oversight: The Supervising Attorney (SA) is responsible for maintaining client files and ensuring that cases are progressing efficiently and effectively.

Guidance: The SA is responsible for providing legal guidance to his or her team. The SA sets the overall tempo for their team and ensures that accounts are processed efficiently and effectively.

Legal Strategy Development: The SA collaborates with their team to develop legal strategies for cases. They analyze legal issues, review evidence, and guide the team in determining the best course of action. The SA is responsible for conducting Higher Level Review Informal Conferences and Board of Veterans’ Appeals (BVA) Hearings. The SA is responsible for drafting BVA Briefs, BVA Memorandums, and BVA motions. The SA is also responsible for all proceedings at the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (CAVC). The SA is responsible for determining whether to give approval to request medical and/or vocational opinions, whether to appeal a case to the BVA, whether to appeal a case to the CAVC, and whether the final goal on a case has been reached.

Problem-solving and Decision-making: The SA handles complex legal issues and makes strategic decisions based on their expertise and experience. The SA may need to analyze risks, evaluate potential outcomes, and provide recommendations to clients or higher-level management.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to practice law in at least one state
  • At least eight (8) years of experience in veterans' benefits law, including representation of claimants at the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims or serving as an Attorney Advisor at the Board of Veterans' Appeals.
  • Management experience preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional analytical and research skills
  • Ability to lead a team of case managers and other staff
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving veterans and their families
  • Tech-saavy
