YOUR FUTURE TEAM

As part of TCEQ’s Office of Waste, you would contribute to agency efforts to regulate the generation, treatment, storage, and disposal of various wastes and the cleanup of contaminated sites. See details about what we do.

This position is a member of our Superfund Section of the Remediation Division.


HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage all phases of moderately complex work on geologic projects; provide geoscience expertise to the team/section/division and agency staff; and provide assistance and recommendations to other section staff in the review and evaluation of project geologic conditions.

  • Prepare work orders, review invoices, and monitor project budgets.

  • Perform special technical or administrative tasks as assigned, such as but not limited to: mentoring, technical reviews, and prepping guidance materials, contract specifications, or proposal evaluations.

  • Communicate with internal staff, the public, contractors, and other governmental entities. Represent the agency at technical functions, seminars, and meetings.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in preparing and/or reviewing technical and/or regulatory correspondence (e.g., technical reports, letters).

  • Experience overseeing or conducting environmental (soil and/or groundwater) investigations (i.e., affected property assessments or remedial investigations).

  • Experience with managing and/or leading projects (i.e., responsible for scope, schedule, budget, client/customer interaction, managing contractors/subcontractors).


Qualifications


REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Geoscientist I:

  • Licensed as a Geoscientist by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG).

Or

  • Five years of full-time geoscientist experience and must be licensed as a Geoscientist by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG) or obtain licensure within twelve (12) months of hire date.

Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

Geoscientist II:

  • Licensed as a Geoscientist by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG) plus two years of full-time geoscientist experience beyond licensure.

OR

  • Seven years of full-time geoscientist experience and must obtain Geoscientist licensure within twelve (12) months of hire date by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG).

  • A graduate degree in a geoscience discipline may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum of two years substitution allowed.

Career Ladder Progression

  • Two years of full-time TCEQ experience as a Geoscientist I

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES

This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Geoscientist I-III state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Geoscientist I-III series.

WORK SCHEDULE

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Individual and work group schedule determined by the Superfund Section of the Remediation Division.
