The Building Consenting Unit plays a pivotal role in the Christchurch community through its range of activities and responsibilities; most notably by ensuring compliance with the New Zealand Building Act.
The Residential Processing team are a high performing team who support our customers to make sure the vision for their future building project comes to life, from conception right through to completion.
We see our role as working alongside our customers, which means that we have to be future focused and understand that as our customer's vision and goals change, we need to change with them.
As a result, we have an opportunity for a people and performance driven leader to join us, as ultimately, we know that it's our people who will ensure that we continue to go from strength to strength.
About the role | Ko te mahi nei
The Residential Processing team takes building consent applications from concept to reality and are focused on making sure our customers feel and see that we are working in partnership with them.
The aim is to make this process of meeting or exceeding statutory targets as smooth as possible resulting in a better service to customers.
About you | Ko Koe Tēnei
You will lead an established team of industry professionals. As such, you will have the relevant industry experience and legislative knowledge to allow you to lead from the front, inspire with your vision and drive performance.
You will have a fair and realistic approach to regulatory and building compliance, and a desire to use your extensive leadership skills to further develop an already high performing team.
This role offers a unique span of control in terms of the volume and variation of work. You will be confident in engaging and instilling trust with a range of stakeholders at all levels, and comfortable dealing with complaint escalations. We want you to share your ideas for continuous improvement and be passionate about doing things for the greater cause.

- Hours of work - 37.5 - 40 hours per week
- Position - Permanent, full time
- Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices - 53 Hereford Street
- Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $126,230 - $140,255 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
