This role offers an exciting opportunity to develop a strong foundation in the protection and communication systems that keep our power distribution networks operating safely and efficiently. As a Trainee Power Technician, you will gain hands-on experience in the field, apply practical problem-solving skills, and work outdoors as part of a dedicated team.At Northpower, we’re looking for a motivated Trainee Power Technician to join our team. You’ll be learning alongside some of the best in the business supporting our crews as they install, test, maintain, and repair the electrical networks that keep our communities running. No two days will be the same. One day you might be helping track down a fault in a substation, the next assisting with transformer maintenance or completing a safety inspection. You’ll learn to read wiring diagrams, carry out testing, and get hands-on with real network assets all while studying towards industry qualifications.
Role Responsibilities:
- Supporting the team with fault finding testing, installation, and maintenance of electrical and substation equipment.
- Assisting with the upkeep and installation of transformers and switchgear.
- Learning to interpret technical drawings and troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Completing safety checks, documentation, and quality audits.
- Attending block courses and completing your training standards on time.
- Getting involved in afterhours response work when needed.
