This position performs professional, technical, and analytical work involving the research, design, development, recommendation, and implementation of new or improved plans, programs, and procedures to enhance tree canopy management, and other City sustainability initiatives within the Office of Sustainability & Resilience. The work focuses on advancing resilience and sustainability through urban and green infrastructure planning, as well as operational and community-based programs and policies. Most work is concentrated in urban forestry and management of the City’s tree canopy as well as related programs involving multiple internal departments, along with external community groups and stakeholders. This work emphasizes collaboration across internal, external, and interdepartmental relationships and the use of critical thinking and analytical skills to evaluate methods and proposals, with the overarching goal of advancing sustainability initiatives and improving the City’s tree program. This position also supports broader sustainability and resilience focus areas, including energy and water initiatives, waste management solutions, and green building practices and certifications. The employee participates in the preparation of moderately complex analytical and technical research reports, summaries, and recommendations, and may assist in addressing more complex operational or programmatic challenges. Work also involves preparing detailed reports and graphics for presentations; assisting with coordinating, planning, and setting up for community events and exhibitions; and communicating and coordinating projects with local businesses, project teams, other government entities, universities, and City Departments. The work requires the exercise of considerable judgment, initiative, and collaborative interactions with employees, partner agencies, contractors, neighborhood associations, and the public.
Salary: $61,736 - $98,425

To Qualify
Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
- Have a valid Bachelor’s Degree in urban planning, sustainability, forestry, environmental science, resilience, natural space management, engineering or a related field.
- Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
- Be proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word.
- Have very strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
- Have knowledge and prior experience in professional administration and/or task and research management related to tree inventories and canopy analyses.
- Have expertise in focus areas related to sustainability and resiliency and urban forestry.
- Are an active ISA Certified Arborist.
- Have knowledge or prior experience with GIS, i-Tree, and PowerPoint.
