Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist

About the Role:

Our Veterinary Assistants are key members of the team — often the first and last faces our clients see. You’ll be responsible for ensuring each patient and their owner receives compassionate, professional, and timely care.

Responsibilities Include:

• Greeting clients and ensuring a positive experience
• Booking appointments, surgeries, and patient drop-offs
• Assisting with animal restraint during exams and procedures
• Processing lab samples and submitting requisitions to IDEXX
• Preparing for surgeries and assisting during procedures
• Dispensing medication under veterinarian instructions
• Charting vitals and monitoring patients during recovery
• Handling payments, insurance claims, and invoicing
• Maintaining accurate electronic medical records (paperless system)
• Answering phones and handling client communications
• Cleaning and sterilizing rooms, kennels, surgical instruments
• Preparing surgical packs and maintaining supply stock
• Supporting the team with administrative and reception duties

What We’re Looking For:

• Previous experience in a hospital or clinic is MANDATORY
• Graduate of a veterinary assistant program (preferred)
• Experience with Ezyvet software is an asset
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Compassionate, calm under pressure, and able to multitask
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook

Scheduling Details:

• Early Shifts begin between 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
• Evening shifts available (Reception closes at 9:30 p.m.)
• Weekday, evening, and weekend availability is required
• Hospital hours may adjust based on operational needs

Pay: $20.00-$27.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32 – 40 per week
