Posizione aperta: Deputy Project Manager

Location: Stockholm

For one of our infrastructure projects in Stockholm, Sweden, we are looking for a Deputy Project Manager. As a Deputy Project Manager for large infrastructure works you are responsible for leading the full lifecycle of complex civil engineering projects, from planning and procurement through execution, follow-up, and delivery. You ensure that long-term and short-term schedules, budgets, and quality targets are consistently met while maintaining strict adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

You drive coordination across multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors, and external stakeholders, ensuring transparent communication, efficient resource utilisation, and proactive risk management. A central part of your role is to analyse progress against project plans, identify deviations, and establish corrective measures that secure project performance.

As a manager at Itinera you are expected to demonstrate strong leadership, foster collaboration, and develop your team in an engaging and inspiring way that aligns with company values. You lead by example, exercise sound judgment, and ensure compliance with laws, contracts, and internal guidelines within your area of responsibility

Cooperates with

Internally: Project Manager, Construction/Production Managers, site engineers, design management, commercial/contract teams, HSE, quality, and finance.

Externally: Clients, consultants, authorities, subcontractors, suppliers, and other key stakeholders.

Specific Tasks and Duties

Project Planning and Control

  • Establish, maintain, and lead execution of comprehensive project plans including scope, schedule, budget, risk, and resource allocation.
  • Monitor and analyse project progress, identifying variances and implementing corrective actions to ensure schedule and cost adherence.
  • Lead development and approval of construction methods and sequencing.
  • Secure alignment between engineering, procurement and on-site production.

Commercial and Contract Management

  • Manage procurement processes for subcontractors and suppliers, including tendering, contract negotiation, and evaluation.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements and proactively manage variations, claims, and commercial risks.
  • Provide accurate financial forecasts, cost control reporting and budget follow-up in coordination with finance.

Stakeholder and Communication Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, authorities, and consultants.
  • Lead regular project meetings, presenting progress, risks, and planned actions.
  • Ensure timely communication of project updates, milestones, and deliverables to internal and external stakeholders.

Safety, Environment and Quality

  • Ensure full compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards across all project phases.
  • Implement and follow up risk management procedures to mitigate project and operational risks.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, and reviews to ensure adherence to project requirements and regulatory obligations.

Team Leadership and Coordination

  • Lead, mentor, and develop project teams, ensuring clear roles, expectations and performance follow-up.
  • Promote collaboration, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing across disciplines.
  • Ensure that site personnel and subcontractors follow project objectives, standards, and company procedures.

Work Environment / Workplace

The position is primarily site-based, requiring an active presence in complex, dynamic construction environments. The role demands frequent coordination with internal teams, subcontractors, and authorities as well as participation in progress reviews, inspections, and strategic planning sessions. Flexibility, resilience and strong communication skills are essential for success.

Competency Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or equivalent qualifications as determined by the company.

Experience: Minimum 8–10 years of experience in project management of large-scale infrastructure projects, such as tunnels, bridges, rail, major earthworks or complex civil engineering works.

Skills and Characteristics

  • Strong leadership capability and experience managing multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Proven expertise in project scheduling, cost control, risk management, and procurement.
  • Deep understanding of safety, environmental and quality requirements in large infrastructure projects.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities with a structured and proactive approach.
