1099 Independent Contractor
Location
Remote, with occasional travel for team meetings, events, training sessions, and organizational initiatives.
Compensation
Competitive contract compensation based on experience, plus quarterly performance bonuses.
In addition to the base contract rate, the Director of Human Resources & Talent Acquisition will be eligible for performance-based quarterly bonuses tied to hiring goals, onboarding success, employee retention, team development, operational efficiency, and organizational growth objectives.
Total bonus compensation may equal up to 20% of annual contract earnings, paid quarterly based on performance and milestone achievement.

As we continue to grow nationally, we are seeking a Director of Human Resources & Talent Acquisition to help build the team that will power our future.
Position Overview
This is a leadership role that combines Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, Recruiting Operations, Team Development, and Organizational Growth.
The Director of Human Resources & Talent Acquisition will be responsible for helping build, support, and scale our workforce across multiple divisions. This individual will play a critical role in creating the systems, processes, and people infrastructure necessary to support a rapidly growing organization.
This position will initially focus heavily on recruitment and talent acquisition, helping reduce executive involvement in day-to-day hiring activities by managing candidate screening, interviews, onboarding, and employee support.
As the organization grows, this individual will build and lead an HR department, eventually overseeing recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, training, compliance, and workforce development initiatives.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable interviewing candidates, creating HR processes, onboarding new team members, handling employee relations, and developing long-term talent strategies.
Key ResponsibilitiesTalent Acquisition & Recruitment
- Lead recruiting efforts across all divisions and brands.
- Review applications and resumes.
- Conduct initial screening interviews.
- Coordinate second-round and final interviews with leadership.
- Develop recruiting strategies to attract high-quality candidates.
- Manage job postings across multiple platforms including LinkedIn, Indeed, and industry-specific networks.
- Build and maintain candidate pipelines.
- Develop relationships with colleges, universities, professional organizations, and industry groups.
- Create hiring processes that improve efficiency and candidate experience.
Interview Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for candidate interviews.
- Conduct first-round interviews and assess candidate qualifications.
- Present qualified candidates to leadership with recommendations.
- Coordinate interview schedules and communications.
- Maintain interview notes and hiring records.
- Ensure a professional and positive candidate experience.
Employee Onboarding
- Manage onboarding for all new hires and contractors.
- Coordinate employment documentation and agreements.
- Develop onboarding schedules and training plans.
- Ensure new team members are properly introduced to company systems, policies, and culture.
- Track onboarding progress and completion.
Human Resources Operations
- Develop and maintain HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Support employee relations and conflict resolution.
- Maintain personnel records and organizational documentation.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.
- Assist with performance management processes.
- Support organizational planning and workforce development.
Team Development & Culture
- Help cultivate a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven workplace culture.
- Develop employee recognition and engagement initiatives.
- Support leadership in team-building efforts.
- Create opportunities for professional development and growth.
- Assist with employee retention strategies.
Organizational Growth & Workforce Planning
- Collaborate with leadership to identify future staffing needs.
- Develop workforce planning strategies that support growth.
- Build hiring roadmaps aligned with organizational goals.
- Create scalable HR systems and infrastructure.
Department Building & Leadership
As the organization grows, this position will be responsible for building and managing an internal HR team, which may include:
- Recruiters
- Talent Acquisition Specialists
- Onboarding Coordinators
- HR Coordinators
- Employee Relations Specialists
- Training & Development Specialists
- Administrative Support Staff
The Director will be responsible for hiring, training, mentoring, and managing future HR team members.
Contractor & Volunteer Management
- Support onboarding and management of contractors, consultants, interns, and volunteers.
- Assist departments in identifying staffing needs.
- Ensure consistent onboarding and documentation processes across all worker classifications.
Systems & Reporting
- Maintain applicant tracking systems and HR databases.
- Track hiring metrics, onboarding metrics, retention rates, and workforce trends.
- Provide regular reports to leadership.
- Recommend improvements based on workforce data and organizational needs.
QualificationsRequired
- 5+ years of experience in Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, Recruiting, People Operations, or related fields.
- Experience conducting interviews and managing hiring processes.
- Strong understanding of recruitment strategies and talent acquisition best practices.
- Experience building processes and systems in growing organizations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
- Ability to manage confidential information professionally and ethically.
- Experience working independently and making sound decisions.
Preferred
- Experience in startup environments or rapidly growing organizations.
- Experience supporting remote teams.
- Experience in healthcare, maternal health, nonprofit organizations, technology companies, or community-based organizations.
- Familiarity with applicant tracking systems, HR software, payroll platforms, and onboarding systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, Psychology, or related field.
- SHRM, PHR, or other HR certifications are a plus.
