Summary: The Oakville Chinese Network Society is a non-profit organization rooted in the Oakville Chinese community, run by a number of volunteers who are passionate about their work in social and public services. We aim at becoming the voice of the local Chinese community, promoting Chinese traditional culture and participating in various multicultural and social activities.

Under The Government of Canada Summer Jobs program, OCN is currently seeking 1 individual to support the organization's digital marketing and communications efforts, helping to expand OCN's online presence, promote its programs and events, and strengthen community engagement across digital platforms.

Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Social Media Content Creation & Management

  • Develop engaging content for social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, WeChat).
  • Create posts, graphics, short videos, and stories promoting OCN programs, events, and community initiatives.
  • Assist in maintaining a consistent posting schedule and monitoring audience engagement.

2. Digital Campaign Support

  • Support online promotional campaigns for cultural events, community workshops, senior programs, and newcomer services.
  • Help design digital flyers, infographics, and email newsletters.
  • Track performance metrics and suggest improvements to increase reach.

3. Website Content Updates

  • Assist in updating website text, images, news, and program listings.
  • Upload event announcements and maintain an organized content structure.
  • Ensure content is accessible, bilingual (English/Chinese) where needed, and visually appealing.

4. Multimedia Production

  • Capture and edit photos and short videos from community programs and events.
  • Organize and archive digital media for future outreach and reporting.
  • Support the creation of highlight videos and recap posts for major events.

5. Community Engagement & Outreach

  • Support digital outreach to seniors, newcomers, and families through accessible marketing tools.
  • Assist with online registration forms, surveys, and participant communication.
  • Respond to basic inquiries received through social media channels.

6. Administrative & Collaboration Tasks

  • Work with program coordinators to gather information for promotions.
  • Attend weekly check-ins and provide progress updates.
  • Assist in documenting marketing activities and developing a digital marketing toolkit for future volunteers.

The Digital Marketing Coordinator is expected to:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Be enrolled in or have graduated from a program in Digital Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Graphic Design, or a related field
  • Be proficient in social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, WeChat, YouTube) and content creation tools (Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Be willing to learn new skills to support OCN's diverse programs serving seniors, women, youth, and children
  • Be available to work for the duration of the contract
  • Comply with the organization's rules and policies; maintain a positive relationship with project participants, workshop facilitators, volunteers, and the OCN management team
  • Attend project-related meetings — either virtually or in person
  • Be fluent in English, Cantonese and/or Mandarin
  • Other tasks may be assigned

Working hours: 30 hours/week (including some evening and weekend hours)

Wage: $17.60/hour

Duration: 9 weeks

Note: Candidate must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Oakville, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Oakville, ON
