Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Underground Utility Equipment Operator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating a variety of underground utility equipment to install, maintain, and repair utility systems. This role involves working in confined underground environments and performing other construction tasks essential to the maintenance and expansion of underground infrastructure.
The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong work ethic, keen attention to detail, and a commitment to operating equipment safely in compliance with all safety regulations and project specifications. The position also requires the ability to perform effectively in physically demanding conditions.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent preferred
· Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience operating heavy machinery in underground utility installation or related fields.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Valid Driver's License with clean driving record.
- Commercial Driver’s License Class A preferred.
- Relevant equipment operation certifications preferred.
- OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to operate a variety of construction equipment, including excavators, backhoes, and trenchers.
- Familiarity with utility construction techniques, underground piping, and infrastructure installation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations, including trenching and excavation safety.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, and project plans.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Equipment Operation:
Safely operate a variety of heavy machinery and equipment, including excavators, loaders, skid steers, backhoes, trenchers, and other construction equipment to excavate trenches, move materials, and perform other tasks required for underground construction projects.
2. Utility Installation:
Perform tasks and assist crew with the installation of underground utility systems , such as water mains, sewer pipes, electrical conduits, and telecommunications cables, by digging trenches and placing pipes or conduits in position.
3. Site Preparation:
Ensure job sites are properly prepared, including cleaning debris, leveling terrain excavation, trenching, and ensuring proper equipment setup and operation.
4. Maintenance & Repair:
Conduct maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on equipment, ensuring it remains in good working order.
5. Self-Perform Work:
Complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision, ensuring project deadlines and quality standards are met.
6. Safety Compliance:
Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries and to ensure all work is conducted in compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
7. Quality Control:
Ensure all utility systems are installed according to project specifications and quality standards.
8. Collaboration:
Work closely with team members, foremen, project managers and other personnel to coordinate work activities, prioritize tasks, and ensure efficient project execution and timely completion of projects.
9. Maintenance and Inspection:
Perform routine maintenance and inspections on heavy equipment to ensure proper functioning and identify any issues or defects that may require repair.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Ability to work in various outdoor conditions, including extreme weather.
- Must have good hand-eye coordination and the ability to maneuver equipment safely in tight spaces.
- Ability to work long hours as required by project timelines.
