Share Your Love For Your City As A Tour Guide Trainer!

What does an ExperienceFirst Guide Trainer do?

At ExperienceFirst we place storytelling at the heart of what we do, sharing our experiences with a global network of family and friends. Our Guide Trainers are instrumental in shaping the skill of our new and existing guides to tell those stories and experiences, sharing not only the history and ‘facts’ of a place, but their own connection to it, favourite hidden gems, the ‘inside scoop’ and the realities of life wherever they happen to be. It’s about stories told from the perspective of people who live them day-to-day. Our Guide Trainers are also guides themselves who have their own similar stories to tell!

What do we look for?

We look for guide trainers who have experience in the field, are natural leaders, open communicators, and are reliable and dependable. As a guide they should also be passionate storytellers and willing to share their own unique perspective. While we have set routes, we look for people who are keen to do their own research, keep up to date with how a city evolves and form a genuine connection with the people they meet.

Key skills and attributes include:

  • A genuine interest in and connection to the place or topic of our tours
  • Friendly and open people skills, able to engage and confidently manage a large group of diverse travelers
  • Ability to conduct independent research, learn new information and create an entertaining narrative through personable story-telling
  • Strong understanding of the importance of safety and able to adapt confidently to unexpected circumstances
  • Clear and professional communication, with a respect for systems and processes that enables the smooth operation of a tour.
  • Capability to translate all of the above guide skills into a comprehensive training program that builds confidence and community amongst our tour guides

What will you be doing?

ExperienceFirst Guides Trainers are the heart of what we do. They bring the brand to life. As a Guide Trainer you will work closely with our North America Guide Manager and operations staff to:

  • Assist in training and onboarding newly hired guides
  • Act as a brand ambassador for ExperienceFirst, both internally with our guide cohort and externally with our customers
  • Assist with the implementation of new systems and processes with a focus on training our guides in these new processes when applicable
  • Provide on the ground support for the operations team in your destination, potentially meeting vendors and scouting out tour routes
  • Help the product and operations team with new tour launches in your destination, which would include leading training sessions for tour guides learning a new tour
  • Train on and be capable of leading all of the tours in your destination with the purpose of also being able to train other tour guides to lead those tours
  • Lead by example as a five star ExperienceFirst guide

Our values and benefits - what’s in it for me?

At Experience First we believe in putting experience first, not just for our guests, but everyone who works for us. You will receive:

  • Competitive salary
  • Incentives and additional earning potential through reviews, tips, competitions, providing feedback and ideas etc.
  • Growth opportunities (many of our staff including our most senior leaders started as tour guides and guide trainers!)
  • Flexibility - choice over frequency and timing of tours and guide trainer hours (subject to seasonal availability)
  • A comprehensive training program led by our guide manager and fellow guide trainers and management
  • Opportunities to be part of a global growth journey as Experience First continues to open more destinations (transfers possible depending on locations and visa requirements)
  • Access to a passionate team of people who genuinely love the travel industry and bringing each destination to life, celebrating the uniqueness of each city.
