Position: Assistant Food Service Manager/Cook
Department: Food Services
Reports to: Food Service Manager, under direction of Food Service Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly) – Food Service Employee Association
Schedule: Full Time, 6 hours/day, 10 Months

SUMMARY:
In cooperation with the Food Service Manager, the Assistant Food Service Manager oversees the local food service operation including nutrition, food production according to menu, sanitation, safety and security,
equipment use and maintenance, procurement, staff training, recordkeeping and customer service. The Assistant Food Manager/Cook may be required to rotate between buildings on an as needed basis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

- Maintain compliance with all local, state and federal regulations as they relate to health and safety of meals and service to students.
- Cook all hot food items for breakfast and lunch utilizing approved menus and portions according to recipe and federal and state regulation.
- Monitor time and temperature control during cooking, handling, storage and service process.
- Completes and maintains production records through meal service
- Assists the Cafeteria Manager in determining the planned counts for meal preparation
- Maintains quality and quantity control through the use of standardized recipes.
- Prepares student Specialized Meals for students with life threatening food allergies or other disability
- Prepares food and displays meal items on serving lines to be appealing to customers.
- Provides proper serving utensils to the food service workers according to guidelines and recipes to meet National School Lunch standards and for portion control.
- Maintain equipment for optimal, cleanliness, utilization and efficiency.
- Assist the manager in preparation of daily and weekly orders; may need to assist in placing orders with vendors in the absence of the manager
- Assist in receiving deliveries and storing food items away following SOP guidelines.
- Assists in inventory control.
- Assist in the all areas of the kitchen as needed including but not limited to assisting food service staff in preparation of meal items, serving of meals or cashiering during lunch service as needed.
- Assists in coordinating and executing catering events and special functions in conjunction with the Cafeteria Manager, Food Services Coordinator and/ or FSD
- Fill in for Cafeteria Manager on an as needed basis including managerial job tasks.
- Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to vending, catering, assisting food service workers, etc.

- Combination of education and experience equivalent to high school diploma or GE
- ServSafe Certified or the ability to obtain within the first six months of hire.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be louder during student lunch periods.
- Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements.
