The Bar Manager leads all aspects of bar operations while also working regular bartender shifts and performing all standard bartender duties. In addition to bartending, they take on elevated responsibilities such as scheduling, training, ordering, budgeting, and maintaining service standards. To complete these administrative tasks, the Bar Manager must schedule themselves time or coordinate with the General Manager (GM) to receive dedicated admin or ordering days as needed. This role receives a higher hourly wage in recognition of these added responsibilities. While their primary focus is the bar, the Bar Manager also supports overall restaurant operations and may serve as manager on duty when required. They play a key role in ensuring smooth service, high-quality products, and cost-effective operations, reporting directly to the GM and collaborating closely with both front-of-house and back-of-house teams.
Job Duties:
- Work regular bar shifts and perform all standard bartender duties
- Supervise and schedule bartenders; issue corrective actions as needed
- Order bar products and manage bar budget and inventory
- Maintain accurate Toast buttons and pricing
- Keep the bar clean, organized, and compliant with safety andservicestandards
- Lead regular training for bar staff on new products and recipes
- Train servers and hospitality assistants on drink specials and bar knowledge
- Ensure staff are in proper uniform and service standards are met
- Perform line checks to ensure product quality and consistency
- Handle server, bar, and host checkouts; conduct table touches
- Address guest and employee complaints professionally and report issues to GM
- Write and submit bar schedules weekly for GM approval
- Update specials boards with new or unavailable bar items
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors
- Control beverage costs and ensure proper ordering based on sales trends
- Comp food/beverage items for bartenders, servers and hospitality assistants as needed
- Serve as acting manager on duty and support FOH/BOH operations when needed
- Develop and enforce weekly and daily bar cleaning checklists
Minimum Requirements:
- Some management experience preferred
- Professional communication skills are required
- Ability to take direction, work in a team environment, and work calmly, positively, and effectively under pressure
- Must have problem solving abilities, be self-motivated, and organized
- Must be able to work nights, weekend, and holidays
- Must be able to speak, read, and understand basic cooking directions
- Minimum 19 years of age
Working Conditions:
- Primarily works in an indoor setting and frequently uses a computer.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to heat and cold from mechanical equipment.
- The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate to loud.
- Will work near moving or mechanical parts.
- May work near toxic or caustic chemicals and with fumes or airborne particles.
- Able to work varying schedule, including evenings, holidays, and extended hours as business dictates.
Essential Physical Functions:
- Ability to speak and hear.
- Close and distant vision required.
- Frequent walking, with occasional periods of standing.
- May walk for extended periods or long distances.
- Frequently lifts/carries up to 25 lbs.
- Occasionally lifts/carries up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to reach hands and arms in any direction and to kneel and stoop repeatedly.
