Catering Assistant: Community Employment Scheme

The catering assistant will support the kitchen management team in providing snacks and meals for YMCA Dublin Childcare. The childcare facility hosts upwards of 150 children daily and it is the role of the kitchen to ensure the provision of healthy food daily.

The catering assistant will be responsible for prepping food and cleaning.

Key Responsibilities

  • To work in the kitchen to provide a variety of healthy meals.
  • To work alongside the catering staff and under the catering manager.
  • To prepare, cook and serve meals for children.
  • To help prepare snacks and lunchtime meals for staff.
  • To prepare food for executive committee meetings.
  • Shop for groceries.
  • Place telephone orders where necessary.
  • Stock take.
  • Budget for groceries.
  • Washing and cleaning of floors, skirting, counter tops and all kitchen surfaces and cupboards to maintain hygiene and cleanliness.
  • The YMCA as your employer is committed to implement and review control measures. You will be required to undertake training and retraining where necessary, as outlined by the YMCA.

Community Employment Programme Overview

This is a three-year phased Community Employment (CE) Scheme role designed to provide participants with meaningful work experience, on-the-job learning, and accredited training to support progression into long-term employment or further education. The programme includes:

  • Year 1: Completion of training including: Food Safety and HACCP Level 1 & 2

Experience in a catering setting and knowledge of menu preparation.

  • Year 2: Training may include: HACCP Level 3 and Allergens, First Aid.

Experience detailed knowledge of food intolerance, allergens and dietary requirements.

  • Year 3: Training may include: Knife skills and Manual Handling, CV preparation and interview skills.

Participants receive continuous support, supervision, and mentoring throughout the programme to help build skills, confidence, and readiness for future employment.

Employment Details

  • Hours: 19.5 hours per week (part-time)
  • Schedule: Monday - Thursday: 1.30pm - 5.30pm, Friday: 2pm - 5.30pm
  • Location: Aungier St, Dublin 2
  • Support: Laptop provided, regular supervision, access to training
  • Eligibility: Applicants must be eligible for Community Employment under DSP criteria

  • The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the group work process and will also be able to work with individuals in setting personal goals/developing a personal learning profile.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: €286.50 per week
