About the Program
The PoMoArts Ceramics Technician Program (CTP) is geared towards ceramic artists early in
their careers. The CTP provides experience in the non-profit arts sector in a supportive
educational community. This 4-month program will provide professional experience through
supporting the ceramics programs at PoMoArts. Working under the supervision of the Ceramics
Manager, the CTP tech will gain an in-depth understanding of the maintenance and operation
of a large studio, equipment, and assist in programming, working with clay makers of all levels.
The CTP Tech will support the work in a large active studio, developing their ceramics expertise
and learning from our team. This position provides hands-on experience in all aspects of
operating our ceramics programs with a focus on studio management, production process, clay
recycling, glazing, and program management in a non-profit community arts organization.

January 15th – May 14th. Successful applicants can be engaged for a maximum of three terms
in a row.
Duties
The CTP Tech has a wide variety of responsibilities. They will be required to work up to 9 hours
per week, this will include physical labour and, at times, heavy lifting as part of their regular
duties. Each work shift will be four hours with a maximum or three shifts per week, assisting
with daily operations in the studio.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Loading and unloading the kilns and document the process
Maintaining and mixing studio glazes
Cleaning and organizing the ceramics studio and equipment
Pugging reclaimed clay
Keep all equipment, tools, and supplies related to our ceramics studio organized, clean,
and in good working order
Assisting glaze student pieces and document the process
Ensuring WHMIS and MSDS are being met to Health and Safety standards
Ensuring that the studio is visitor-ready especially before a group or a field trip arrives
Assisting Ceramics Manager in technical/facility projects
Assisting in the production of Arts Centre ceramics such as mugs and plates for events
Completing other tasks as reasonably required of this position

In exchange for the CTP Tech work, we are offering access to our ceramics studio for personal
work time and some storage space. The CTP Tech will have access to all Student Studio hours in
the ceramics studio up to 9 hours that match but not exceed weekly CTP Tech work hours. This
offers the opportunity to apply learnings and maintain their artistic practice in a fully stocked
studio.

Application Criteria
A successful applicant will be a hard worker with a demonstrated passion and dedication for
ceramics. They will be a good communicator, problem-solver, and eager to increase their skill
set. This program is geared towards ceramics artists or graduates interested in furthering their
ceramic education and developing their portfolio.
The successful candidate will need to pass Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
Requirements:
BFA or BA in ceramics or equivalent experience
Ability to work with adults and children of all ages and abilities
Strong work ethic and commitment to community service
A general understanding of a variety of ceramics processes
Ability to work up to 9 hours a week in 3-hour shifts that may include heavy lifting, up to
25lbs
Assets:
Intermediate level of throwing and hand-building skills
Time Commitment
The CTP Tech should be prepared to work three days a week for 3 hours a day, during the full
term for a total of 36 or 40 hours.
