The Opportunity

The Child and Family Programs (CFP), Community Services team within the Ministry of Social Services is hiring Child & Family Transporters to fill term positions. In this role, you will be responsible for the transportation of children, youth, and families. The Transporter serves as the primary contact on scene before, after, and during visits and is responsible for transporting the children, youth, and families to their assigned destination. There are no guaranteed hours with this position, hours are based on the call outs received while on call.

To qualify for this position, you will possess a valid Class 5 license.

In this role, you will:

  • Transport children to initial placements or new placements;
  • Tend to the needs of children and youth in your care, ranging from infants to adolescents;
  • Coordinate with workers and service providers for transportation needs, especially for out-of-region placements;
  • Transport family members for visits, appointments, or placement transfer;
  • Transport children to and from foster or group homes for visits, appointments, or placement transfers;
  • Supervise children for short durations when in foster care, in the Ministry of Social Services office, or group homes to ensure the safety of the children;
  • Document interactions with clients during visits or transports and make recommendations for any changes to the plan; and
  • De-escalate clients to ensure safety, calling emergency contacts like the police if needed.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have the following knowledge and skills:

  • Crisis intervention strategies and de-escalation skills;
  • Child abuse and neglect indicators and effects;
  • Proficiency in conflict resolution in situations where there are conflicting pressures;
  • Insight into social and economic factors that impact family life and contribute to child abuse and neglect; and
  • Knowledge of multi-cultural beliefs and values, with a particular emphasis on First Nations and Metis.

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through:

  • A grade 12 diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license.
