Salary:
Appointment will be made on Grade III Clerical Officer salary scale at a point in line with Government pay policy.

(€31,618 to €48,927 LSI)


Hours of work:
Full-Time 35 hours per week

Monday – Friday 8.00am – 3.30pm

Job Purpose

Under general supervision and following established policies and procedures, provides support to the Cancer Clinical Trials & Research Unit. The CCTU will offer a 6 month ‘Research Internship’ in 2026 to an undergraduate student where an undergraduate course requirement specifies student placement.
The purpose of this student placement is to assist with chart review, oncology systems/reporting review with the aim of service development and improvement.
The candidate will also assist with chart pre-screening, screening for clinical trial eligibility (non-IMP studies) and other tasks deemed necessary and appropriate in line with training and experience.
The specified purpose contract will run for 6 months, from 1st March 2026 – 31st August 2026.
Responsibilities:

Responsibilities
  • Assist with chart review, oncology systems/reporting review with the aim of service development and improvement
  • Assist with the research consenting process
  • Assist with the planning and organising of patients appointments
  • Collect, track and maintain medical records as required for data entry
  • Maintain research data bases as per study requirements.
  • Manage and maintain clinical research documentation for studies.
  • Pre-screen, screen and follow patients in line with specific protocol requirements and under the supervision of relevant Principal Investigators and CCTU Management Team.
  • Ensure adequate supplies are available to the research team to carry out study related procedures.
  • Assist with Site File management
  • Undertake additional administrative duties from time to time as required by Programme Manager to facilitate the smooth running of the CCTU.

The post holder must maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and research activities in accordance with all applicable policies, SOP’s, and ICH-GCP guidelines and Irish and European legislation.

Mandatory:

Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc

(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:
(i) Obtained at least grade D (or pass) in Higher or Ordinary Level in five subjects from the approved list of subjects in the Department of Education
established Leaving Certificate Examination or Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme or Leaving Certificate Applied.

Or

(ii) Passed an examination of at least equivalent standard.

Or

(iii) Satisfactory relevant experience which encompasses demonstrable
equivalent skills.

And

(b) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability and administrative ability), for the proper
discharge of the office.

Age

Age restriction shall only apply to a candidate where s/he is not classified as a new entrant (within the meaning of the Public Service Superannuation
(Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2004). A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65 years of age on the first day of the month in which the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the office occurs.

Health

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and
efficient service.

Character

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

Desirable
  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate 3rd level course (science or medicine) that requires placement
  • Supportive documentation from college necessary
  • Familiar with concepts of ICH GCP
  • Current holder of ICH GCP certificate
