SALARY RANGE: $70,000 - $85,000 per year
In determining compensation, various factors will be considered, including but not limited to, educational background; relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, market factors; and geographic location.
GENERAL SUMMARY: The Communications Specialist will provide support by managing the preparation, formatting, routing, and tracking of technical and administrative documents. This role requires strong technical writing and editing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to navigate structured approval processes in a federal environment. The candidate must be organized, proactive, and able to meet deadlines while ensuring accuracy and compliance with Navy standards.
LOCATION: Bethesda, Maryland
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in technical writing, editing, or document management.
- Experience working in large organizations with complex approval workflows.
- Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro for document preparation and signatures.
- Knowledge of government or military document standards preferred.
- Familiarity with Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) handling is a plus.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, or related field preferred.
- Associate’s degree with equivalent professional experience considered.
SKILLS:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, Power BI).
- Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Ability to quickly learn new systems and processes.
- Meticulous attention to detail and quality assurance.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Draft, edit, and format technical reports, correspondence, and other communications products.
- Prepare and route documents through enterprise approval and tracking systems.
- Ensure compliance with Navy/DoD formatting, classification, and distribution standards.
- Track workflow progress and follow up with reviewers/approvers as needed.
- Maintain organized records and archives of finalized documents.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have intermediate-level knowledge and experience with Excel, Word and Adobe
- Must be U.S. Citizen
- Ability to obtain and maintain Secret level security clearance.
- Must pass background check
- Minimum of 3 years of work experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Organized with an eye for the details
