Communications Specialist, Theatre And Dance
Campus Location Main Campus (Memphis, TN) Position Number 024200 Category Staff (Hourly/Monthly) Department Theatre and Dance Minimum Position Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Theatre, Dance, or other relevant area and a minimum of two (2) years of appropriate experience. Relevant experience may substitute for required education.

The department is especially interested in candidates with experience in the performing arts and/or higher education.
Work Schedule
Monday – Friday
9:00am-5:00pm

Will require occasional nights and weekends and may require some travel.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic CRM usage (i.e. salesforce, capsule, pipedrive, honeybook).
  • Ability to use basic design software and generative AI products (i.e. Adobe Photoshop/InDesign, CANVA).
  • Knowledge of basic email and text messaging best practices and systems (i.e. MailChimp, Constant Contact, Transpond, TextMagic).
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Ability to maintain prompt and regular attendance.

Job Duties

Duties & Responsibilities
Recruitment and Admissions – Creates and implements strategies to accurately promote department’s programs to prospective students in engaging ways. Designs and prepares departmental promotional material in print and electronic form for recruiting students. I cooperation with the chair, coordinates the departmental application and audition processes. Processes departmental admission decisions and updates applicants as well as campus stakeholders (UG Admissions, The Graduate School) as necessary.

Duties & Responsibilities
Production Promotion and External Communications – Plans and executes publicity for and promotion of all Theatre and Dance activities, including design of all season flyers, production posters, production programs, press releases, and other documents; acts as liaison with all media and other community partners. Maintains the department website utilizing university provided templates in a WYSIWYG environment. With support from the chair, advancement, and other stakeholders, assists in planning and executing departmental fundraising activities. Works with students to manage the department’s social media platforms.

Duties & Responsibilities
Internal Communications – Maintains internal student contact lists. Creates content for internal newsletters and student reminders. Maintains the department’s internal academic blogs. Manages and creates content for electronic lobby displays and text messaging systems.

Duties & Responsibilities
Support Departmental Leadership – Serves as a member of the chair’s advisory team along with the production manager and the financial services associate. Participates in weekly staff meetings and monthly faculty meetings.
