About the Organisation

Comm Unity Plus Services Ltd (operating as commUnity+) is a multidisciplinary organisation located predominantly across Melbourne’s western suburbs. We strive to enable positive change and growth for people through a range of prevention and early intervention programs including Community Education, Children’s Contact Services, Neighbourhood House, Legal Services and community engagement and development activities.

commUnity+ has grown from a small residents’ action group in Deer Park to a large community-based organisation that delivers programs from multiple locations. Our Head Office is located at Keilor Downs.

About the position

The Community Development Worker builds community participation and inclusion through program delivery, partnerships, and outreach across commUnity+ sites. Using a community development framework, this role strengthens connections between people, programs, and local assets to support equitable and sustainable community outcomes.

Implementing a Community Development approach, the Community Development Worker contributes to program development and delivery of CU+ community development activities in addition to supporting CU+’sNeighbourhood House community engagement program delivery and administration. The role will deliver community development across a range of CU+ locations while also providing support for the CU+ Neighbourhood House programs

Reporting to the Community Development Manager, the Community Development Worker promotes the growth and development of community development programs in line with organisational strategic planning, community assets and arising challenges. The Community Development Worker works with and for the community to seek and provide opportunities that are responsive to community needs, interests and promote the values of commUnity+.

Please note this position will be primarily based at the CU+ Neighbourhood House in Deer Park, available as a part-time position for 3 days (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays).

Key Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in Community Development or relevant field.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for a variety of audiences and purposes.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse communities and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community development principles and frameworks and experience implementing in a real-world setting
  • Strong administration skills, data entry and database management, and competency using technology (including proficient use of Microsoft Office).
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, set priorities, monitor workflow, follow direction, maintain deadlines whilst working autonomously.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all of community.
  • Previous experience in a Neighbourhood House or community setting is advantageous, in addition to proficiency in languages additional to English.
