Digital Communications And Legislative Intern

United States Senator Ankit Jain (D-DC) invites college students in the District of Columbia to join our office as a spring 2026 intern. This is not an internship that involves low-level busywork. You will be a vital part of the office of Senator Jain and be given responsibilities. Two to three interns will be chosen to run the senator's social media and digital communications platforms, support our congressional lobbying efforts, and complete other vital tasks. The office is on the frontlines of attacks by Congress and the President on DC autonomy, and you will have a chance through this internship to play a large role in fighting for our democracy. This exciting opportunity will provide hands-on work experience to help you decide if a career in local and/or national politics is right for you.

PLEASE NOTE: We are offering an $1,800 stipend per student, unless receiving academic credit only is preferable. We are happy to work with students to receive class credit for the internship.

Responsibilities may vary depending on the needs of the office and include, but are not limited to:

  • Create attention-grabbing graphic designs, infographics and edit videos for posting on all social media platforms.
  • Draft the office’s bi-weekly newsletter.
  • Attend official meetings with Members of Congress, DC Councilmembers, and their staff; congressional oversight hearings and community events.
  • Monitor congressional actions/hearings and communicate with other government offices about legislation relating to DC autonomy.
  • Draft responses to constituent comments, and draft summary documents to advocate on legislation related to DC.
  • Brainstorm ways to increase involvement in DC Home Rule efforts and to increase participation in, and visibility of, the DC statehood movement.

The internship will begin on January 12th, and interns are expected to work 15-20 hours per week for 16 weeks. Interns will report to the staff assistants. This is a hybrid internship, and while interns will not need to come into the office in the John A. Wilson Building, and in-person events at the U.S. Capitol Building, and across DC over the course of their internship.
