THE ROLE
The Direct Tax Intern will support corporate income tax compliance, reporting, provision work, tax research, and various planning initiatives. This role provides hands‑on experience with federal and state income tax, quarterly tax provision processes, and exposure to corporate tax technology and data management. The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, and eager to learn how tax functions operate in a corporate environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Income Tax Compliance
  • Assist in preparing federal, state, and local corporate income tax returns and supporting workpapers.
  • Help gather and analyze financial data needed for tax filings.
  • Support estimated tax payment calculations and extensions.
Tax Provision & Reporting
  • Assist with quarterly and year-end ASC 740 tax provision activities.
  • Help prepare schedules for current and deferred tax calculations.
  • Reconcile tax accounts and validate trial balance data used for provision purposes.
Research & Analysis
  • Perform direct tax research using tax databases and official guidance.
  • Summarize tax law changes and their potential business impact.
  • Support tax planning projects, modeling, or scenario analysis as needed.
Audit Support
  • Prepare documentation for federal or state income tax audits.
  • Assist with gathering supporting evidence for auditor requests.
  • Maintain organized audit files and schedules.
Process & Systems Support
  • Help document internal processes and controls related to direct tax.
  • Assist with data collection from ERP systems and evaluate data quality.
  • Participate in testing of tax software or updates (e.g., provision tools, compliance software).

Education and/or Experience
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s in accounting, Finance, Taxation, Economics, or a related field
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, basic formulas)
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
Skills and Abilities
  • Coursework in income taxation or business law
  • Interest in pursuing a career in corporate tax, public accounting, or finance.
