Job Description

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

The incumbent serves as a critical partner to the Subsidiary Governance Office and will be responsible for overseeing technology and operations, including supporting controls and issues management across the group, governance and reporting of control assessment outputs and conclusions, and assisting the team in the implementation and continuous enhancement of the SGO’s technologies, governance model and activities.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Controls and External Reviews:

  • Manage and oversee all internal and external reviews, including preparation, coordination with internal and external reviewers (including auditors and regulators), and implementation of corrective actions

  • Develop, maintain and continually enhance subsidiary governance examination protocols and practices, including SOX processes

  • Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the subsidiary governance control framework to ensure compliance with applicable legal/regulatory requirements and RBC internal policies

  • Maintain inventory of all subsidiary governance controls and any supporting documentation

  • Advise on design effectiveness assessments and operating effectiveness assessments for subsidiary governance controls

  • Conduct root cause analysis of control gaps identified in testing

  • Assess and document planned control remediation (issue creation, documentation and closure)

  • Serve as primary liaison between second/third line functions for control management activities

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks, and develop strategies to improve risk monitoring and governance

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement process improvements

  • Facilitates training and awareness initiatives around the control framework for the Department

Technology and Digital Governance:

  • Serve as the technical expert for all digital governance platforms, ensuring all technology employed by the group continues to meet the requirements of the team

  • Manage the technology vendor relationships and compliance processes aligned to RBC’s internal policies and processes

  • Support the continuous improvement and adoption of technology and other digital tools to enhance the group’s efficiency

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Must-have

  • Must be a qualified law clerk or paralegal with corporate governance experience

  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, Board Portals and corporate databases and able to adapt to new technologies.

  • Must have previous people management experience

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) and strong team player with good influencing skills

  • Exercises discretion and confidentiality.

  • Highly organized, able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with challenging deadlines in a fast paced and dynamic environment

  • Attention to detail and accuracy.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience in the banking or financial services industry

  • Project Management skills
