About the Role:

Curtin University is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Employment Compliance Manager to lead our staff compliance strategy and ensure the institution’s alignment with complex employment legislation, industrial instruments, and regulatory frameworks.

This pivotal role sits within the People & Culture Division and plays a strategic part in embedding a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement across the University's employment practices.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Design, implement, and evolve an enterprise-wide employment compliance and governance framework.
  • Lead proactive risk management initiatives that drive continual improvement in compliance practices.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders, legal advisors, and key stakeholders to ensure best practice is embedded across employment-related policies and decision-making.
  • Conduct compliance reviews, recommend policy enhancements, and initiate remediation actions to address risks or breaches.
  • Occasionally lead cross-functional teams or matrixed project resources in the delivery of key compliance initiatives.
You will operate with a high degree of autonomy and professional discretion and will be instrumental in influencing strategic compliance outcomes at the highest levels at Curtin University.

Who we are looking for:
  • Significant experience in employment compliance, workplace relations, or regulatory governance—preferably within the higher education or public sector.
  • Knowledge of Australian employment legislation including the Fair Work Act, NES, Enterprise Agreements, and Modern Awards.
  • A proven track record in designing and operationalising compliance frameworks, conducting risk assessments, and delivering remediation activities.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to interpret complex industrial instruments and convert them into practical and effective compliance controls.
  • Outstanding communication skills—both written and verbal—with the ability to prepare, reports and strategic advice for executive leadership and governance bodies.
Role Requirements:
  • As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role
