The Equity Internship Program (EIP) is a 12-month internship pilot program for those that identify as Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) and/or lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, Two-Spirit, and/or other community members (LGBTQ2S+).

The goals of the EIP are to:

  • Encourage BIPOC and LGBTQ2S+ people to consider careers within SDPR.
  • Recruit a more representative workforce.
  • Support the development of leadership skills for BIPOC and LGBTQ2S+ people.
  • Help close social and economic gaps between BIPOC and LGBTQ2S+ people and other British Columbians.


The interns will be working in one of three divisions:

  • Corporate Services Division, as part of the Inclusion, Diversity and Cultural Safety Team within the Strategic Human Resources Branch – JOB PROFILE: Equity Intern Corporate Services.
  • Employments and Labour Market Services Division, as part of the Inclusive Employment team within the Program, and the Policy and the Development Branch – JOB PROFILE: Equity Intern_Employment and Labour Market Services.
  • Service Delivery Division as part of the Community Integration Services Branch – JOB PROFILE: Equity Intern_ Service Delivery.

Job Requirements:

  • Self-identify as BIPOC and/or LGBTQ2S+
  • Currently live in BC.
  • Secondary school graduation (Dogwood, GED).
  • Two (2) years related experience and demonstrated leadership potential.
  • Related experience may be gained through work, community or volunteer opportunities and may include:
    • Managing projects or project components
    • Supporting the design, delivery, and/or evaluation of projects or programs
    • Searching, gathering, and examining information and summarizing the research findings
    • Developing presentations, and/or support materials for meetings or events.
    • Organizing and prioritizing your and/or other people’s work.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

About this Position:
We have three (3) full-time temporary opportunities until August 2024 with the Equity Internship Program.
An eligibility list may be established.
This position can be based in any Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction (SDPR) office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
