Job Overview
We are seeking a technically competent and commercially minded Mechanical Estimator to join our specialist team working across HVAC Test & Balancing and Pre-Commissioning Water Treatment projects. This role involves preparing accurate cost estimates for new project tenders, supporting pre-construction planning, and ensuring commercial viability throughout the bidding process. You will be responsible for reviewing mechanical drawings, interpreting specifications, quantifying labour and materials, and pricing works related to commissioning, flushing, water treatment, and testing services across a range of commercial and industrial projects including data centres, pharma, healthcare, and commercial buildings.
Key Responsibilities
· Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates and tender submissions for HVAC TAB and water treatment scopes.
· Review and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications (CIBSE, BSRIA, etc.), and schedules for new build and retrofit projects.
· Perform material take-offs and quantify labour, equipment, and subcontractor costs for commissioning-related activities.
· Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors for pricing and availability of equipment and services.
· Understand and apply industry standards such as BSRIA BG29, BG50, and CIBSE codes of practice.
· Collaborate with project managers and engineers to understand scope, constraints, and programme requirements.
· Attend pre-tender site visits, clarification meetings, and client briefings as needed.
· Support handover of successful tenders to project delivery team with clear scopes and budget breakdowns.
· Maintain an up-to-date cost database and pricing library for consistent estimating.
· Identify commercial risks and provide value engineering input during bid preparation.
· Contribute to bid strategy, win themes, and written tender responses where required.
Qualifications & Experience
· Qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, Quantity Surveying or related field (Level 6/7 or higher).
· 3+ years’ experience in estimating within the HVAC, M&E, or commissioning industry – ideally in TAB or water treatment.
· Strong understanding of HVAC systems, chilled/heating water circuits, closed/open loop flushing, and ductwork systems.
· Familiarity with standards such as BSRIA BG29/BG50, CIBSE codes, and relevant commissioning practices.
· Competence in reading technical drawings and specifications.
· Proficient in MS Excel and estimating software (e.g., Ensign, Buildsoft, or internal tools).
· Good commercial awareness and ability to analyse scope gaps and risks.
· Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
· Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.

Pay: €40,000.00-€60,000.00 per year
