Job Summary
Join our dynamic dental team as an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA), where you'll play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care and supporting the clinical team with advanced assisting skills. Duties
- Assist dentists during a wide range of procedures including restorations, crowns, root canals, and prosthetic placements using four-handed dentistry techniques to maximize efficiency and patient comfort
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), including digital imaging and 3D scans, ensuring high-quality images for accurate diagnosis
- Manage patient records using EMR systems such as Open Dental while maintaining HIPAA compliance to protect patient privacy
- Prepare treatment rooms with proper aseptic techniques and ensure all infection control protocols are strictly followed
- Perform vital signs assessments and medical documentation to support comprehensive patient care in both general dentistry and pediatric dentistry settings
- Support dental reception duties by scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing medical records with precision
- Assist with medical imaging procedures and understand relevant medical terminology for seamless communication with healthcare providers
- Educate patients on post-treatment care, dental terminology, and preventive practices to promote oral health literacy
Experience
- Proven experience working as a Dental Assistant in a fast-paced dental clinic environment with exposure to pediatric dentistry preferred
- Strong knowledge of dental assisting procedures including chairside assisting, infection control, aseptic technique, and anatomy fundamentals
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Open Dental
- Competency in taking X-rays (including 3D imaging) and understanding dental terminology related to general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatrics
- Ability to perform vital signs assessments accurately and support infection control standards diligently
- Knowledge of medical coding and medical records management for comprehensive patient documentation
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients of all ages, especially children
