We are seeking an experienced, bilingual (Spanish/English) Removal (Deportation Defense) Paralegal to join our immigration law firm. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with a strong understanding of EOIR procedures, immigration court practice, and relief from removal. The Removal Paralegal will work closely with attorneys to manage cases from Master Calendar through Individual Hearings and appeals, ensuring accurate filings, deadlines, and clear communication with Spanish- and English-speaking clients.
Key Responsibilities
Case Management & Court Practice
- Manage a high-volume removal defense caseload with minimal supervision
- Prepare and file EOIR forms and pleadings, including but not limited to:
- EOIR-28, EOIR-33, EOIR-42A, EOIR-42B, I-589, I-918/I-918A, I-360, I-130, I-485 (when applicable in court context)
- Draft motions, briefs, and supporting declarations, including:
- Motions to Continue
- Motions to Reopen
- Motions to Terminate
- Bond motions
- Assemble and file court packets, including evidence tabs, exhibits, and witness lists
- Track and manage hearing dates, filing deadlines, biometrics, and court requirements
- Prepare attorneys for Master Calendar Hearings (MCH) and Individual Hearings (IH)
Client Communication
- Conduct client intakes and follow-ups in Spanish and English for removal defense cases
- Request, review, translate, and organize supporting documents from clients
- Explain court procedures, deadlines, and next steps clearly and compassionately to bilingual client populations
- Maintain consistent and timely communication with clients regarding case status
Coordination & Compliance
- Communicate with Immigration Court, DHS/OPLA, detention facilities, and external agencies
- Ensure compliance with EOIR filing rules and local court practices
- Maintain accurate case notes and records in the firm’s case management system
- Assist with appeals to the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) when applicable
Qualifications
- Fluency in Spanish and English (verbal and written) is required
- Strong knowledge of EOIR procedures, immigration court practice, and relief from removal
- Experience preparing filings for Immigration Court and working with detained and non-detained clients
- Proficiency with immigration case management software
Job Type: Full-time
