Facilities Maintenance Technician

The City of Gardner has a full time opening for a first shift (7:00a - 3:30p) Facilities Maintenance Technician. This is a temporary position with an undetermined duration. Based on organizational needs and performance, there may be an opportunity for the role to become permanent in the future.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Manager, the Facilities Maintenance Technician performs tasks such as sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, stripping floors and vacuuming carpets; dusts and washes walls; washes windows, woodwork, furniture and performs other cleaning tasks to keep offices, rest rooms, corridors, entry ways and all other areas of the buildings clean and orderly; receives, unloads, stacks and delivers office supplies, housekeeping supplies, equipment and other materials. Operates small electric or manual tools in the performance of the above tasks; carries out refuse, waste and/or garbage. Responsible for providing building maintenance assistance for all City of Gardner buildings/facilities as assigned by supervisor.

Delivers office supplies upon request (i.e., paper); installs and removes air conditioners; operates low pressure heating systems and makes minor repairs to the building and equipment as assigned by supervisor; changes light bulbs; assists office staff with various office set-up duties (i.e., affixing wall or window fixtures); painting; maintenance of grounds including trimming of shrubbery and mowing. Maintains outside walkways in a safe manner. Sweeps stairs and sidewalks; responsible for snow and ice removal from all outside walkways and stairs. Responsible for all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Building Commissioner or his/her designee.

Responsible for opening and/or closing of City Hall for business. Must be avaible to work second shift, specifically for building maintenance services required for evening meetings and the closure of City Hall at the conclusion of those meetings.

Qualifications: Requires experience in at least two of the following areas: carpentry, painting, plumbing, plastering and/or other trades. Must have:

· Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.

· Two (2) years’ experience in the building maintenance field.

· Grounds keeping experience.

· A combination of previous related work experience may be substituted for some of the above qualifications.

· Ability to work alone or with little supervision is necessary.

· Be available to work overtime.

· Must be able to work flexible work schedule.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 per hour
