A well-functioning laboratory environment is essential for successful research. At the Division of Food and Nutrition Science, our laboratory engineers play a central role in supporting students, researchers, and advanced analytical work. We are now looking for a Technician or Laboratory Engineer to join our team and contribute to our research infrastructure.
About us
The Department of Life Sciences is aiming at bridging cutting edge life science research with biochemical engineering, in order to emerge as the leading innovation center in the region. The research has broad applications in areas of health and industrial production of e.g. fine chemicals, food and energy. The department offers highly qualified education for engineering students within the area of bioengineering. It is furthermore collaborating in broad, interdiciplinary national and international networks within academia and the industry.
The Division of Food and Nutrition Science is one of four research divisions at the Department of Life Sciences. Food and Nutrition Science is one of the leading units in the area in Sweden with particular strengths in nutritional and computational metabolomics, dietary biomarkers, micronutrient metal nutrition, nutritional immunology, marine food science, plant based foods, food biotechnology and nutrition as well as food by-product biorefining and protein technology.
The division has a wide range of modern analytical equipment for chromatography coupled with mass spectrometery, an in vitro human cell laboratory, and a microbiology laboratory. The division focuses on nutritional solutions for health and disease prevention by studies on the molecular, cellular, and whole-body level. It also has a strong focus on sustainable use of food raw materials and on many different quality aspects of food.
About the laboratories
The Division of Food and Nutrition Science has extensive laboratory activities, including characterisation of food raw materials, food biochemical processes, studies of the bioavailability of nutrients and bioactive compounds, and characterisation of nutrients and non-nutrients in human samples using a range of basic to advanced analytical techniques.
Our laboratories are up to date and equipped with modern analytical and food technology instruments (HPLC/UHPLC, NMR, LC/GC-MS/MS, spectrophotometry, cell laboratory facilities, tribology and rheology instruments, fermentors), as well as food laboratories including pilot-scale equipment for larger-scale food raw material refinement and formulation (extrusion and 3D printing). We also have fully equipped facilities to conduct human intervention studies at Sahlgrenska University Hospital and at the Center for Lifestyle Interventions at Östra Hospital, where we collaborate extensively on human intervention studies.
All these activities require well-orchestrated laboratory support. We have a team of three laboratory engineers who work closely with students, PhD students, postdocs, and researchers.
We are now looking for a Technician or Laboratory Engineer who can support our operations, with responsibility for the purchasing of laboratory materials, equipment, chemicals, and reagents. Additional responsibilities include onboarding and offboarding newcomers and guests, assisting with laboratory analyses, and taking the main responsibility for the division’s biobank.
