Homelessness is the largest social and public health crisis in California. Illumination Health + Home (IH+H) is a growing non-profit organization dedicated towards disrupting the cycle of homelessness by providing targeted, interdisciplinary services in our recuperative care centers, emergency shelters, housing services and children's and family programs. IH+H currently has 13+ facilities with 22+ micro-communities scattered across Orange County, Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire.


Job Description

The HR Generalist is responsible for the coordination and administration of routine people operations. The role of the HR Generalist has both strategic and administrative responsibilities and plays a leading role in planning and carrying out important functions, such as handling leaves/accommodations, employee lifecycle maintenance, verifications of employment, Benefit/COBRA approvals, and EDD filings/audits.

The starting salary for this role is $68,640 - $70,000, depending on experience. In office position at our Santa Ana, California Corporate Office.


Responsibilities

General Duties

  • Support and monitor the Benefit/COBRA process, ensuring full compliance with applicable regulations and deadlines.
  • Partner with HR Business Partner on Workers’ Compensation Claims.
  • Respond and prepare all documents for employee leaves of absence/accommodations.
  • Assist with the preparation of semi-monthly payroll processing.
  • Act as support to HRIS implementation and administration.
  • Provide general HR guidance and recommendations to staff and respond to HR inquiries.

Benefit Administration

  • Provide census data and benefits reports when needed
  • Review and approve benefit enrollment for new hires in HRIS system
  • Help monitor the COBRA process and ensure compliance
  • Administer employee health benefits and 401k enrollments, changes, and terminations
  • Assist in reviewing billings for accuracy and correct discrepancies
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding benefit plans

Leaves and Accommodations

  • Conduct interactive processes at sites according to accommodations requests
  • Process EDD claims
  • Track employee work status reports and determine availability to return to work
  • Provide support in managing and administering leave/accommodation programs and policies in accordance with the applicable federal and state employment laws (FMLA, ADA, CFRA, etc)
  • Handling LOA personnel change documentation

HRIS Management

  • Serve as company’s HRIS administrator by
    • Updating information and maintaining files to ensure record-keeping requirements are met
    • Processing garnishments and medical child support orders
    • Conducting quarterly audits to ensure proper functioning and accurate data
    • Customizing system to fit company needs
  • Maintain confidentiality and employee trust with sensitive information
Risk Management/Compliance
  • Assist HR Business Partner in managing Worker's Comp claims and requests
  • Processing all workers compensation claims and conduct root cause analysis of injuries/issues and making recommendations
  • Maintaining all Worker’s Comp records up to date


Preferred Experience/Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a Human Resources or administrative support role.
  • Knowledge of COBRA, Leave/Accommodation Laws, and general employment laws and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and HRIS systems.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
Preferred:
  • Master’s degree in human resources or a related discipline.
  • SHRM-CP or PHR Certification a plus
  • Prior experience with HR compliance audits and onboarding documentation.
  • Prior experience with UKG Ready a plus
  • Familiarity with reporting tools and data analysis for HR metrics
  • Bilingual communication skills.
