Schedule: M-F 7:30am-5pm

About the Role:
The HR & Safety Administrator supports the daily operations of the Human Resources function while leading key safety initiatives across the organization. This role provides guidance and expertise across a broad range of HR disciplines, including employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, onboarding, and policy implementation, while also ensuring effective execution of company safety programs.
This position partners closely with leadership and employees across multiple divisions—including construction, maritime, and port operations—to promote a safe, compliant, and engaged workforce. The ideal candidate is hands-on, highly organized, and capable of balancing tactical execution with strategic support in both HR and safety functions.
Key Responsibilities:
Human Resources
- Serve as a primary HR point of contact for employees and managers, providing guidance on policies, procedures, and employee relations matters.
- Manage the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, performance management, and offboarding.
- Support benefits administration, including enrollment and employee communications.
- Ensure compliance with all employment laws and regulations.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records within HRIS systems (ADP or similar).
- Conduct workplace investigations and recommend appropriate resolutions in collaboration with HR leadership.
- Partner with payroll and finance on personnel changes, compensation updates, and compliance audits.
- Assist in developing and updating HR policies, handbooks, and procedures.
- Support recruiting efforts, including job postings, interview coordination, and hiring manager collaboration.
- Participate in HR initiatives related to employee engagement, retention, and training.
- Provide coaching and support to supervisors and employees to foster a positive and compliant workplace culture.
Safety
- Work with Field Safety to document job site inspections, audits, and hazard assessments to ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and safety violations; prepare reports and implement corrective actions.
- Lead safety orientations and ongoing training for employees, subcontractors, and new hires.
- Maintain and submit required documentation to regulatory agencies
- Monitor safety performance metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Serve as the primary liaison for safety inspections and compliance audits.
- Collaborate with operations and leadership to develop safe work practices and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
- Manage safety equipment inventory and ensure proper use of PPE.
- Stay current on industry regulations, trends, and safety technologies.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of progressive HR and/or Safety experience, with demonstrated expertise in employee relations and compliance.
- Strong understanding of WorkSafe Standards and environmental compliance
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications:
- CHRP certification
- Degree or Certificate in Human Resources, Business Administration, Safety, Environmental Science or a related field.
- Experience in mining, construction, maritime, or industrial sectors.
- Proficiency with HRIS systems (UKG preferred)
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Occasional travel to field sites, job locations, or company divisions as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds if necessary.
Work Environment:
- Office-based role with occasional field or site visits.
- Standard business hours with occasional extended hours during peak periods
Additional Requirements:
- Must be authorized to work in Canada.
