Job Summary
This position will provide strategic and operational leadership for the institution’s practice for Enterprise Integration Platforms (EIP). This role oversees the platform’s technical roadmap, manages the backlog, and prioritizes features based on stakeholder needs and business value. This role acts as a liaison between business stakeholders, development teams, and technical personnel, ensuring the successful implementation and ongoing management of the integration platform.

AU Formal Title: Systems Engineer

This position is located in Auburn, Alabama and working onsite is a requirement of the job. May work up to 2 days hybrid remote in local area with supervisor’s approval after completion of probationary period.

Essential Functions
Product Vision & Strategy: Define and communicate the vision and strategy for the Integration Platform, aligning with institutional goals and stakeholder needs.
Backlog & Feature Prioritization: Maintain and prioritize the platform backlog, making decisions based on business value and stakeholder input.
Release & Change Management: Oversee release management and service excellence for the Integration Platform, leading the change management process to ensure smooth transitions and minimal disruption.
Metadata Management & Documentation: Design and maintain enterprise metadata processes, including integration cataloging, data flow documentation, and data dictionaries, to support governance, discoverability, and compliance.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Serve as the primary point of contact between business stakeholders, technical teams, and external partners. Gather requirements, facilitate communication, and ensure alignment.
Implementation Leadership: Lead the implementation and ongoing management of the Integration Platform, ensuring timely delivery of features and integrations.
Best Practices & Governance: Provide guidance on integration best practices, platform governance, and compliance with institutional policies.
Platform Integration: Oversee the integration of the EIP with other institutional services and platforms, ensuring seamless data and process flows.
Continuous Improvement: Monitor platform performance, solicit feedback, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Systems Engineer:
High school diploma and 11 years of relevant experience OR
Associate’s degree and 7 years of experience OR
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience.

Sr. Systems Engineer:
Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of relevant experience

Scope of experience: Relevant IT experience in the administration of distributed computer systems

  • Proven experience in product management, project management, or a related leadership role—preferably in higher education or enterprise IT environments.
  • Strong understanding of cloud services, integration platforms, and business architecture.
  • Experience with change management, release management, and service excellence in technical environments.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and prioritize effectively.
  • Familiarity with best practices in integration, data governance, and platform security.
  • Relevant certifications are a plus (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, DevOps Engineer Expert).
