Description

This position offers hands-on experience in public library services and an opportunity to learn about library workflows and processes. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, comfortable working with the public, and interested in gaining experience in library services or a related field. Responsibilities may include assisting the Technical Services Department with processing and preparing library materials for circulation; supporting the Circulation Department with customer service and front-desk tasks; helping staff with outreach events and community engagement activities; provides assistance with setup and delivery of the library’s Summer Reading Program. There may also be some opportunities to assist with projects at our local History Museum.

Essential Functions

Provides technical, administrative and clerical assistance in support of the Library Technical Services unit.

Provides customer service, public outreach, and support relating to the library.

Responsible for making library materials shelf ready, applies property identification and barcodes to library materials, as part of the material processing team.

Uses a computerized integrated library operating system to create and maintain customer library accounts, and to track materials.

Greets and welcomes customers, assesses their needs, and provides direct, continuous customer service, in person and by telephone.

Instructs the public on the use of equipment, such as computers, copy machine, and self-check-out system, as needed.

Participates in staffing/projects/events at the History Museum

Assists librarians and other team members with various library tasks, displays, and projects including outreach opportunities in the community.

Maintains daily workflow, efficiently receives, processes, and maintains library materials in an organized manner on a daily basis.


Additional Duties
:

Performs other related work as required.

In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be enrolled, or recent graduate (<2 years), from a higher education organization (university, college, or technical institute).

Additional Requirements

Knowledge of office practices and procedures, including record keeping methods, business English, spelling and arithmetic.

Ability to deal with staff and the public professionally, courteously, efficiently and effectively.

Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to maintain records and filing systems in an orderly and consistent manner.

Ability to work independently in carrying out assignments to completion.

Knowledge of integrated, library operating systems, circulation policies and procedures.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
