Internal Communications Specialist

Overview

This position will coordinate, design, and deliver internal communications and engagement across our organization. This role will consult and collaborate with management teams on core internal initiatives, overarching messaging platforms, planning, and implementation. The incumbent will work to successfully launch an effective strategy for corresponding with internal employees.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with the Communications and Human Resources leadership to identify internal messaging
  • Conducts ongoing discussions with City staff to identify new communication channels for all 4,000 employees throughout the city
  • Identifies internal communication gaps and opportunities
  • Works will all 29 departments to highlight key programs, projects, and initiatives to City staff
  • Plans, designs, writes, and launches a variety of content for internal communication channels for various employee levels and departments
  • Ensures alignment of internal and external messaging
  • Ensures all internal communications content is consistent with the City's brand and tone
  • Develops communication plans to enhance team member experience
  • Manages City Events Calendar, Newsroom, and Optisign platform
  • Assists in the development and delivery of training staff in presentation and public speaking skills
  • Provides recommendations for software and other tools to enhance communications tactics
  • Monitors results and adjusts strategy and tactics based on outcomes

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

· Exempt – Full-Time- Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

· Must be available to work additional hours as needed

· Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

· In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

· Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS)

· Two (2) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

· A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring

Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening as listed below:

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
