The focus of the International Relations team is to support the Bureau's international engagements with multilateral and bilateral partners. Specifically, the team provides strategic advice and supports:
The International Engagement Lead is a strategic leader and communicator who will coordinate international engagements, provide informed advice and briefings, and develop initiatives to increase the value and impact of the Bureau's multilateral and bilateral relationships. They are highly self-motivated, agile and collaborative.
The role reports to the Manager of International Relations and involves regular direct engagement with the Bureau's Executive, internal and external stakeholders and includes a strong emphasis on written and verbal briefing on technical and scientific content, program management, and time critical administrative tasks.
The International Engagement Lead may be assigned specific leadership responsibilities for a particular international organisation, bilateral partner or critical Program function. They will develop deep subject matter expertise to support their leadership responsibilities.
The role is part of a small and geographically dispersed team. The successful candidate must be willing to work, on occasion, at times outside of standard business hours and be willing to undertake international travel when required.
Professional experience in a similar role in Government or at another scientific/technical organisation would be highly valued.
- The Bureau's adherence to Australia's formal obligations under the Convention of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) 1947, including providing strategic advice to support the CEO / Director of Meteorology as the Permanent Representative of Australia to WMO;
- The Bureau's role on behalf of the Australian Government as the National Focal Point with the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), including engaging with Australian marine stakeholders as part of preparing strategic advice for the Australian delegation to IOC governing body sessions; and
- Bilateral relationships with meteorological and hydrological partner agencies.
