The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking an Investment Risk Modelling Co-op Student/Intern for the Fall 2026 (September - December) work term to support the Investment Strategy & Risk team. WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

You will work with the Investment Risk Modelling and Public Markets Risk Management group within the Investment Risk Branch in the Investment Strategy & Risk department. The Investment Strategy & Risk (ISR) department plays a key role in setting, implementing, and monitoring the long-term strategies of BCI’s clients. This is accomplished by working with clients, management and asset classes to define the optimal path to achieve clients’ outcomes and enabling BCI’s investment structures and processes necessary to fulfill these outcomes. ISR consists of three branches: Strategic Asset Allocation, Total Fund Management, and Investment Risk.

Investment Risk includes the maintenance of systems for monitoring, measuring and estimating various forms of relevant investment risks across the various asset classes that BCI currently invests or may invest in and aggregating that risk at a total fund level.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Support the monitoring of day-to-day operations regarding market and counterparty risks

  • Assist in the risk management oversight by preparing relevant reports, analyses, and tools to measure risk

  • Take part in developing risk-reporting templates and leverage AI tools to enhance data visualization and build dynamic, interactive reports

  • Document new processes and update the manuals

  • Take on ad-hoc projects using Python and Power BI and apply AI tools to automate repetitive tasks and streamline risk-reporting processes

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • University Degree with courses offering strong foundations in financial risk management and investment management

  • Familiarity with Python, Bloomberg, SQL and VBA

  • Working knowledge of AI tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot) and ability to apply them to data analysis, automation and reporting tasks

  • Fundamental knowledge of basic business and investment related disciplines is essential

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

  • Exhibit a high level of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills

  • Strong relationship-building ability, proactive, results oriented, and resourceful

  • Ability to meet deadlines by delivering with excellent product quality and attention to detail

  • Have a passion for investment management, a dedication to hard work, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and an eagerness to learn

  • Competitive pay: $2,330.00 gross bi-weekly + vacation leave paid based on 6% of salary

  • Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location

  • Spend your off hours exploring beautiful Victoria and Vancouver Island

  • All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office with the option to work one day per week from home. Please note, some positions are not eligible for hybrid work.
