Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate dental assisting activities, ensuring smooth workflow during patient appointments.
- Assist dentists with a wide range of procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
- Prepare treatment rooms with sterilized instruments and materials, maintaining strict aseptic techniques.
- Manage medical documentation, including medical records, medical coding, and electronic health records (EMR systems) such as Dentrix or Epic.
- Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans when applicable, ensuring accurate imaging for diagnosis.
- Educate patients on oral health practices and post-treatment care while addressing their questions professionally.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff and dental assistants to uphold high standards of chairside assisting and infection control protocols.
- Oversee inventory management of dental supplies and equipment maintenance to ensure operational readiness.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to safeguard patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant in a busy dental clinic environment with knowledge of general dentistry procedures.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques.
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic; experience with medical documentation and coding is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform X-ray procedures accurately while maintaining patient comfort and safety.
- Knowledge of pediatric dentistry principles and experience working with pediatric patients is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with dentists, staff, and patients.
- Certification in dental assisting (such as CDA or RDA) is required; additional certifications in pediatric dentistry or endodontics are a plus.
