Lead Hand - Cnc Machinist - Day Shift

Straight Day shift (Monday – Friday)

This role is a dual role, you are responsible for working in the department to keep the machines running and overseeing the department while, being accountable for your departments training of apprentices and growth. This is a great opportunity to grow in a role that will sustain you for many years.

MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE:

Requirement:

  • Machinist trade certificate or 5 – 10 years experience as a CUSTOM Machinist
  • Proficient in Mastercam, and Fusion, Knowledge of CAD Software
  • Program using Mastercam or Fusion and able to make decisions and edit programs if needed
  • Ability to read & interpret blue prints, GD&T drawings, charts & tables. Motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to determine a machining process sequence per customer information & requirements provided in the Part Print.
  • CNC Machine effectively and efficiently in a Custom Machining environment.
  • Experience in machine setup & Operation of Manual & CNC Lathes
  • Responsible for setup and operation of CNC Mill’s
  • Experience machining Nuclear, Automation and Die components
  • Experience with Okuma control is an asset
  • Perform daily machine checks for preventative maintenance and safety procedures.
  • Practice excellent general housekeeping, including but not limited to, his/her work area, chip removal, floor areas, benches, storage areas to ensure a safe work environment
  • Check all dimensions and tolerance.
  • Bondable for work in the Controlled goods sector

Your contributions to the team include:

  • Report Directly to the CNC Dept Manager
  • Oversee, assist, and train: Machinist, Programming & Apprentices
  • Maintain organization of jobs
  • Blocks & components
  • Make sure procedures are being followed
  • Job Tracking & Documentation
  • Co-ordinate scheduling with other departments.
  • Manage work flow on shop floor.
  • Schedule all machining centers, operators and daily/weekly workload for all Machines. 1-2 week schedule.
  • Make sure safe working practices are followed
  • Approve and post all employee’s hours in BC.
  • Oversee all machining processes and all programming
  • Work with sales and CNC manager on processes for RFQ submissions
  • Promote a positive team atmosphere, and push machinists to run more than 1 machine
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices, keep the whole department clean and organized
  • Develop work holding systems for all machining centers.
  • Make sure all machines and machinists are work at full capacity.
  • Cover for CNC Manager as needed for vacation, sick days etc.
  • Create scrap reports for all scrap or defective parts
  • Maintain minimal tooling inventory for c-bide drills, endmills, inserts with the CNC manager and toolcrib
  • Inspect parts prior to sending to the QC, toolroom or the customer
