Job Summary:
Gen AI Platform Product Manager at PayPal is a senior individual contributor who operates at the intersection of cutting-edge AI/ML technology and enterprise platform strategy, owning a significant scope within a horizontal platform that serves internal developer and data science communities at scale. At this level, the PM is expected to drive product vision and roadmap with minimal direction, independently leading discovery, prioritization, and delivery across complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives — such as model serving infrastructure, prompt management, evaluation frameworks, or agentic workflow orchestration — while consistently connecting platform capabilities to measurable business outcomes like developer productivity, cost efficiency, and responsible AI compliance.Job Description:
Essential Responsibilities:
- Inputs to product strategy with cross-functional stakeholders consistent with the shared vision for the product or enabling platform.
- Implements the architectural roadmap that balances innovative design and technical implementation, while balancing regulatory requirements, time-to-market, meeting customer needs and product profitability.
- Controls for the customer experience and customer needs in product requirements and as an input to decision making.
- Monitors metrics that inform the success of products including usability studies, research and market analysis.
- Manages one or more workstreams to include analytics, customer discovery, market research and competitive analysis to drive data-driven decision-making.
- Monitors product profitability measures, including budget.
- Participates in operational mechanisms that drive execution and accountability including Product Reviews, Operating Reviews, and Business Reviews. Interfaces with product and technology leadership as needed.
- Partners with content developers, data scientists, product designers and user experience researchers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years of product management experience, with at least 3 years focused on AI/ML platform products, developer tooling, or horizontal platform infrastructure at enterprise scale
Deep understanding of generative AI technologies including LLM APIs, prompt engineering, RAG architectures, fine-tuning pipelines, and agentic workflow patterns, with the ability to engage credibly with engineering and data science teams
Proven track record of owning and delivering complex, multi-stakeholder platform roadmaps from discovery through launch, with measurable impact on developer productivity, adoption, and cost efficiency
Experience defining and managing platform-as-a-product strategies including API design, self-service capabilities, developer experience, and consumption-based usage models
Strong command of AI governance, safety evaluation, and responsible AI frameworks — including working knowledge of compliance requirements such as the EU AI Act or ISO 42001 — and the ability to operationalize these into platform guardrails
Demonstrated ability to influence without authority across engineering, architecture, legal, security, and senior business stakeholders, driving alignment on ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives
Proficiency with data-driven product decision-making, including defining platform KPIs, instrumentation requirements, and using telemetry and usage analytics to guide prioritization
Experience mentoring junior PMs and contributing to broader product management practices, standards, or community within a large organization
