About the Role:
The School of Earth and Planetary Sciences (EPS) at Curtin University is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable academic with proven research and teaching skills in Surveying. This position will conduct independent research in fields related to Surveying and Geomatics and develop high-quality teaching programs within the Bachelor of Surveying (Honours) and Bachelor of Mine and Engineering Surveying. This role includes teaching and supervising research projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Actively contribute to the organisation, planning, delivery and evaluation of teaching in our Bachelor of Surveying (Honours) and Bachelor of Mine and Engineering Surveying.
- Demonstrate best practices and innovative teaching methods that enhance the student experience.
- Undertake world-class research, resulting in research student completions, publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and successful grant applications.
- Collaborate with colleagues within related disciplines to help build a vibrant and sustainable research team.
- Actively engage with the Surveying and Geomatics Discipline to promote a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Promote the discipline within and outside the University community by engaging in service and leadership roles, as well as outreach activities.
- Apply relevant health and safety standards, including the required responsibilities of Supervisors for practical classes and research students.
- In all interactions with staff and students, demonstrate the University values of integrity, respect, courage, excellence and impact.
Essential:
- A doctoral qualification in surveying, geomatics and relevant disciplines, including geodesy, photogrammetry, satellite positioning, mine surveying, hydrographic surveying and remote sensing.
- Some teaching experiences, which allowed them to develop basic teaching skills.
- Willingness to develop an understanding of pedagogical theory and contemporary educational practice relevant to the discipline to support a reflective approach to teaching delivery.
- A record of research outputs/creative works in refereed academic journals/outlets consistent with the discipline (FOR 0909).
- Demonstrated ability to supervise undergraduate students, and the capability to upskill for the supervision of higher degree research students.
- Demonstrated high-level communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross-cultural sensitivity.
- Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant and applicable policies, procedures and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of this position.
- A record of contributing to successful competitive grant applications.
- Demonstrated capacity to undertake a unit coordination role.
- Experience in supervising undergraduate surveying students in field exercises and practicals.
- As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia. We will also consider suitable applicants who are eligible for a relevant visa.
