About the Role
The Maintenance Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the health and safety of residents by assisting with essential tasks. This position is responsible for ensuring a safe, sanitary, and attractive environment for residents and staff through a standardized program of preventative maintenance to ensure optimum performance and appearance of all buildings, grounds, systems and equipment. Ultimately, this position is integral to sustaining high standards of care and operational efficiency within the facility.
Job Responsibilities
- Help carry out the ongoing preventive maintenance program and schedule.
- Helps maintain kitchen, housekeeping, and laundry equipment, and heating and cooling units.
- Assists with miscellaneous repairs and upkeep of building structure, for example, hallways, walls, ceilings, floors, baseboards, door jambs, handrails, etc.
- Removes ice and snow from all exits during winter.
- Perform light maintenance duties such as stocking supplies, taking out trash, and cleaning/straightening equipment rooms, replacing filters, cleaning ventilation ducts, etc.
- Follows safety procedures for using solvents, cleaning chemicals, ladders, electrical tools and equipment, and for lifting and transporting supplies and equipment.
- Help with resident admissions and room changes, moving furniture or other items, helping residents hang pictures, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
- One to three months of related experience and/or training.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of previous experience in a healthcare or assisted living environment.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
